Distraction doesn’t have to be a grand conspiracy, necessarily- although I personally don’t believe any of the Guthrie saga. Sometimes it’s just convenient timing- and the media knows exactly which story keeps the audience hooked and cover up other news stories that risks asking real questions about power.
