Why won't people understand that we're not feeling the effects of probation anymore? We're feeling the effects of Crooms. He was worse than the death penalty.

He left two programs in smoldering craters of probation, with the Bulldogs still trying to dig their way out today
We're trying to dig our way out of the mess that Croom left.

can't blame Sherrill or the NCAA for that matter for our current mess. The NCAA didn't do this. We are suffering from self-inflicted wounds.

Here's the thing, though: Can anyone tell me what exactly was Sylvester Croom's offense? Was it a pro-style attack or a dadaist satire of a pro-style attack? Is "attack" even too strong a word?

the best question off crooms offense I have seen anywhere but here.

good stuff. i am interested in his predictions. also, it was refreshing to finally see someone blast croom a bit other than us. maybe the media darling status is seeing its end.

it is not politically correct to point out that the first African-American head coach in SEC history was an abject failure. It sux too, because it had nothing to do that he was black- he just sucked as a HC. And he probably cost other black coaches a shot for another 10 years at the other schools (except for Kentucky, who has a former player and coach in place)

this one is good too.

best part:

Yes, if "45-35" was the iconic score for the chaos in the Big XII South in 2008, then "3-2" was its parallel for the offensive impotence of all but the best teams in the SEC.

The participants in that slogfest, Auburn and Mississippi State, had struggled on offense for years. But this game was a new high. Auburn was 3-for-16 on third down, lost three fumbles and, of course, provided the Western Division Bulldogs their points by way of a safety. Mississippi State made sure those errors were relatively harmless, going a mind-boggling 0-for-14 on third down and rushing for 38 yards.

This was particularly troubling in Starkville. After all, Sylvester Croom was an offensive coach, right? But when was his vaunted offense going to show itself.

Whenever he fired coordinator and good friend Woody McCorvey, many Mississippi State fans insisted. The irony of Croom's situation was that he was apparently moving in that direction when he, as the story goes, made the decision to step aside himself.

and the fact that there was virtually zero media backlash from a Mississippi school firing a black head coach shows you how terrible he was. It was obvious to everyone that he was incompetent, so much so that even the liberal media elites on the East Coast couldn't say a damn word without looking (more) foolish (than usual).

However, I've said it before, the fact that Croom ever set foot in Starkville can mostly be blamed on Sherrill. To escape the NCAA cloud and to pacify the powers that be, Templeton hired that lazy jackass instead of being able to conduct a reasonable search. (By his standards.)

LT DID NOT have to hire Crooms- he felt like he did and that it would make a big splash. And he was right about the splash part- but Crooms was so 17'ing bad, he couldnt take advantage of all that positive press. Jimbo Fisher wanted to be an SEC HC and LT chose Crooms over him. Thats not Jackie's fault. LT being an idiot cant be blamed on Jackie.

LT buried us- not Jackie

but there are numerous African-American coaches in both college and pro football. IF Templeton was pressured to hire a minority coach, and that's never been established, there were candidates other than Croom. So blaming Sherrill for Templeton's one candidate search is ludicrous.

We would have been absolutely hammered by the NCAA if we hired a white coach and most of the other top black potential candidates shut us down cold. As much as I hate Templeton, he was really backed into a corner on that hire.
