What’s the deal with players going down before scoring TDs to keep control the clock? I’d take the TD every time.
It makes sense in some cases. If you’re up and you can completely run the clock out, then it makes more sense to take the knee at the goal line and eliminate all chance of the other team scoring instead of giving the other team the ball back.
That was a weird one though with OU only being up 2 and then scoring the very next play. Tennessee still had 2 timeouts and there was about 1:50 left on the clock. I don’t know if the clock math worked out where OU could have won without having to play the ball on 4th down. Then they just scored on the next play. In any case, risking the TD for 1 spent timeout didn’t make a lot of sense to me.
