Three players including Crowell have been suspended for the New Mexico State game for a failed drug test. Rumors started coming out Friday that Crowell and some others had failed a test on Thursday.

Crowell plays in the FL game Saturday and the suspensions are announced 30 minutes after Richt's presser on Monday. The local media is now accusing Richt of knowing of the test failure Thursday and playing Crowell anyway, then picking the New Mexico State game for him to sit. GA officials insist that they didn't get the results back until after Richt's presser. To me, that shows it is a lie, because 30 minutes doesn't seem like enough time to leave the press conference, go to your office, suspend the players and then put a press release together, or at least approve the press release. Not to mention, why were there already rumors he had failed it on Friday?

that I bet they're suspended for something they did earlier and they just waited for the easy game to suspend them.

that's funny b/c their logic on the show last nightwas almost the exact same as yours. yet you are coining it as your own thoughts.

Let's be honest, this kind of sht is pulled with every program in almost every sport. These coaches are well-paid employees that can lose their jobs at the drop of a hat. This guy is under tremendous heat, and has been all year, despite having a good year AND doing so without some key players.

Can you blame him? I can't.

Of course, I still feel that Auburn cheated.

When you listen to a compelling argument, and it makes sense so you agree with it, don't those thoughts become your own? Sorry Matt & Chuck for not putting your thoughts in parenthetical documentation on a freaking message board.

ETA: beside when I said "to me..." that was my own thought, because although they beat around the bush about it being a lie, they wouldn't say it...

I'd probably do just what Richt did for a failed drug test unless I'd had problems with the players before. He's coaching for his job this year and getting the win over Florida was huge for him keeping his job. Now if it had been something more serious, I'd like to think I'd have done the right thing and suspended them for Florida. Even then, I don't think any of us would really know what we'd do with that kind of pressure on us.

the SOP for all programs is probably something like take the test on friday or saturday and send them to the lab. Lab results come back on Monday morning. I hope the taxpayers aren't paying for 30 minute drug test results when I got to give my own doc like 48 hours with decent insurance paying. Can it be done, sure, should it be done, nah

the offending player as it should be ... but when you make the player sit during a tough / conference game that you badly need, then that ends up penalizing the entire TEAM ... big difference in my mind

If I had trouble before I would have suspended them for the UF game. That is only if I truly knew before the game.

Maybe the player should have thought about that prior to breaking team rules and doing drugs. You make it sound like it is the coach's fault for suspending the guy rather than the player's fault for being a dubmass. Either he broke the rules or he didn't.

The only way I can see remedying this would be to make it clear that doing drugs only gets you suspended from non-conference games (not including bowl games). I don't think it sets a very good precedent for the team though.

IF I were a head coach trying to protect my multi-million dollar a year salary - I would have done exactly the same ... just saying
