Dont think Johnson talked to him.

And while the Masters is an invite, i'd tell the tournament leaders to F off if i were Tiger. The only legitimate gripe they have is the press conference he held there. That is something i could see them not wanting there.

But disrespecting the game and letting down the fans?...screw off, they arent of any concern.

Of course he wouldnt ever say anything like that, but damn it would be great to see an incredible player tell them to eat a dick if they condemned and talked down to the player about something that happened over 4 months ago that had nothing to do with Augusta or golf.

While Tiger is a huge part of the following of the game of golf, I really do believe that in a "screw you" contest, Augusta National Golf Club easily wins. The list of stuff they have to do against their will is mighty damn short.

Now, I thought the reason that Tiger was chastised was because he requested some preferential treatment on his tee time due to his desire to avoid a press mess. If that is the case, he had to expect a "we don't give a damn what your personal problem is" reaction from these guys. Like I said, they don't have to care.

If thats the only reason he was calling into the principal's office, then yes its legitimate.

I read a couple days ago that he had a private meeting with Payne during the champ's dinner and after that, Payne ripped into Tiger for his actions.

And yes the Masters will go on without Tiger. But if he never played, the ratings would take a hit. A huge hit. Golf is more successful with Tiger involved. The Masters is more successful with Tiger involved.

I acknowledge that the ratings would, in fact, go down should there be no Tiger involved. But, do you really think the members care? When you have the likes of Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Jack Welch, T. Boone Pickens, etc. as members, you really aren't too dependent on CBS contracts or have any money issues whatsoever. They aren't members because of CBS ratings. They are members because they want to be a part of an ultra-exclusive club that happens to have the most pristine golf course in the world.

The Masters/Augusta National will always have its tradition and the members can always give a big middle finger to anyone they please. They only have to answer to themselves and their collective egos are likely large enough to consider telling the best golfer on this planet to 17-off. If the ratings went down as a result, then they will just have an easier time planning for the crowds the next year.

because they wouldn't let a female member into the club.

The club's response?

"Oh. Well, we just won't have any sponsors then."

17ing awesome.

Oh i have no idea if the members would care or not.
Personally, if i werea member of the most prestigious and famous course in the US and held a major, i would want the best player in the world to play in it. I would want golf to be about golfing ability. If John friggin Daly was the best player in the world and it was just after his wife and parents had been tossed in jail, i would still want him to play.

Maybe im a ***** to the talent, but if i belong to the greatest course and we put on what is supposedly the greatest tournament, then i want the greatest players in it.

Membership aside, i honestly do think the tournament organizers would care if he played or not considering they focus on revenue and ratings.

The publicity alone would be terrible for Augusta.

The members know that there's no way in hell the best player in the world would boycot their event. He needs the Masters a hell of a lot more than they need him.

at Augusta National. He was told by Augusta National that HE will have a press conference. Tiger is one of them. Augusta is the father figure and Tiger is the son. They know what he did was wrong. Being the fatherly figure they told him, you can come back and play, we will make sure you are guarded from the media, but you are going to stand up there answer questions in our house and own what you did. You want back in the house, you get in front of that podium like a man, answer questions and that will be your penance. They have a reputation to uphold at the same time.Mr. Payne told him that he was going to say before he criticized him publicly. Tiger was not blindsided by his comments.</p>
