South Carolina desperate enough to settle for Will Muschamp?

Wow, just wow. Muschamp failed at a better easier job in the same damned division. Seems that the chickens are panicked now that Herman is staying put in Houston (waiting for Tejas or Tejas A&M job IMO) and Georgia preemptively took Smart away from them. Also rumored to be eyeing former UK OC candidate Lincoln Riley.

I'd be pretty darned happy as a UK football fan if we enter 2016 with Kirby Smart at Georgia & Will Muschamp at South Carolina and whoever the hell scrambling Mizzou ends up with at this point. Well, happy as a UK fan can be considering we are not exactly in any position whatsoever to take advantage of turmoil and rebuilding within our division.

I'm not surprised. Many SC fans would lead you to believe they are one of the elite programs in the country, but after you take a closer look at the situation, they are no more elite than Kentucky. Sorry gamecock fans, but it's time to know your role and until you do something about it, deal with it.

This has been a good week for Tennessee fans. Richt retires and they hire a first time HC. Alabama now has to replace their DC and it looks like their OC too. South Carolina looks like it is going to hire Muschamp. Rumor out of Florida that Will Grier is withdrawing from school.

He is Smarts first choice as DC and very likely to be our DC if USC doesn't offer the job. He hates it at AU and wants out.

My sources from Athens tell me that Will Muschamp is headed to UGA to be defensive coordinator

Lincoln Riley may wind up with the South Carolina job, if they don't get somebody like Fedora.

Yep should be an exciting week for UT fans, pretty sure next year could be a rough one for us, was likely going to be with or without Richt. He could be the next bust or he could be the right man, won't know for 2-4 year

Interesting that Riley is on the radar for head jobs like this. Had we been able to hire him as OC last year we probably would not have kept him long.

The USCjr job became good when Coach Hotlz made a splash there. The follow up being Coach Spurrier.

Given that those 2 had name recognition is the only reason it was worth a look. The reality is USCjr is second fiddle to Clemosn and not well thought of outside the sec.

This is something that I heard as well. If I'm Fedora, to me that move would be very much lateral......heck, maybe even a step down since I've already got things going my way at UNC and I'd have start over again in USC.

Fedora is playing for a ticket to the final 4 Saturday, he would be crazy to give up that gig for a middle of the pack SEC program IMO.

Talk is he wants out of UNC before NCAA drops the hammer this offseason.

Muschamp to USCe would be a UK fan's dream. I'm also not sold on Kirby Smart.

The sad part is that UK continues to flounder while the east is mired in mediocrity. The East may not ever be this bad again and we're doing nothing to take advantage of it.

You really think NC with a win jumps into the playoffs? If they didn't have to jump ND and tOSU to get there I might agree they get there, but it will be explained their 1 loss was a bad one to a 3 win SC and tOSU's loss was to either the Big10 champ or runner up and ND's loss was a last second FG and a 1 loss CU. I think both get in before NC, unless they win in a blowout.

I would love to be 'a fly on the wall' during any Muschamp HC interview. The AD might not care as much, but most university presidents are very conscious of their schools image. And with his many sideline and press conference tirades, I would imagine he'll be questioned closely regarding his conduct. And may even be written into any contract that he signs. Thin line in coaching between being passionate and a raving lunatic.

The ESPN Sunday morning show has sure been pumping UNC up the last few weeks. One, ND's season is over and two, OSU is not even in their conference championship So, guess there's a chance, even with a very weak schedule...but that doesn't seem to be factored in much.

We've been saying this for years now, haven't we? And yet we still can't make a meaningful move up the ladder, unless you find going from 7th to 5th in the SEC East a noteworthy accomplishment.

He is a solid coach...pretty good recruiter...and top defensive mind...

look at the team he built at florida...specifically the D...

his LSU and Auburn Ds were elite...

if he could have brought in a Lincoln Rielly type of offensive mind to run the offense at Florida he'd still be there...

what ever job he takes next...if he gets the offense right...they'll compete at a high level...

Not really. It is all about wins.

If the sports teams do well, the big sports donors give money. The president then does not have to budget as much of his funds for the athletic departments.

Ohio Col., re ESPN pumping up UNC.......

ESPN President is a UNC alumni.

Also, Mark Stoops is now the senior coach in the SEC East. (He was hired a few days before Jones at UT. UGA, USC, Vandy, Mizz have now all had coaching changes)

Ha...yeah I know. I've wondered when I've listened if they have any marching orders or just trying to get in good with the boss. It's the radio show that comes on at 7a.m. Listen to it every Sunday morning as I'm going to see my mom who's in a nursing home. It's about an hour drive so I listen to them for awhile. Mel Kiper's one of them...the other guy I can't recall his name but he's an Oklahoma alum so he pushes OU a bit.....but pretty fair. And that is funny about Stoops being the 'old man' of the division.

Was his Auburn D Elite ?? It seemed like they gave up a lot of points this year.

yeah, RichRod is more of the type of quality head coach I expected USCjr to chase

Fedora would be looking to leave UNC the same reason Mark Stoops would look to leave UK if he ever had an 11-1, SEC East championship season. Strike while the iron is hot to a football priority school away from a basketball one.

first time around at Auburn...06' and 07'...had top 10 Ds both years...

when he was at LSU under Saban they led in total defense and scoring D...his Texas Ds though not as dominant nationally, usually led the B12...

again, if he could have found some offensive mojo at UF he may still be there and doing very well...recruited very well, top 10 classes...and when it was real bad he still had a top 10 D...just couldn't score...

He can coach defense. But he behaves like a horses *** on the sideline. I dare say it will make many SEC refs happy if he lands somewhere else. He keeps it up, and there will be some big blowback one day.

After the past three years Mark may look more like a senior himself.

I would hate to see RichRod end up with the gamecocks.... I think he would be a perfect fit for them with the quality athletes he could get to run his offense
