Saying he went to the Sweet 16 at WKU does not help my argument, so I only used his coaching resume at SC.

but then you make yourself look like a complete fool by saying stuff like this. Do you think about things before you post them? We get it... you hate stans, but in your hatred for stans, you post something meant to validate a good hire for SC and, in turn, you validate Stans coaching ability. BRILLIANT!

And the coach before him lucked into Downey. Look at South Carolina without Devan Downey. It's pretty embarassing.

They hired hot mid-major coaches or hot high-major assistants and it hasn't done any of them much good in the SEC West. Trent Johnson had a championship team handed to him last year, but this year he's finding it is harder to win in the SEC.<div>Stans has outperformed all these coaches. The Bama loss is a fluke and we'll see who makes the tourney and who does not.</div><div>Coach, I think you know your football, but I think you are wrong about Stans.</div>

Did you just use 3 straight wins against UK as a way to validate Horn as a good coach? You do also realize that Horn has 8 losses already this season and will be damn lucky to make the NIT?

A. Fla hired a mid-major coach too- worked out decently, so did Tennessee
B. Trent Johnson had a team handed to him with two straight losing seasons- no championships
C. Bama loss was no fluke- he got out-coached as usual in a close game
D. I havent been wrong about Stansbury yet- I said in 2003 he'd never make a Sweet 16, and well, we see how that is turning out

if his guy doesn't hit a 40-foot 3-pointer, he doesn't go to the Sweet 16. That's why your tirades against Stansbury are so ridiculous. There is some luck involved sometimes in getting to the Sweet 16. Take our 1996 team - we almost lost in the first round, but were bailed out by Bart Hyche of all people. Then we got to play Princeton in the 2nd round instead of UCLA. One thing you never mention is that twice we've played a #1 seed in the 2nd round and taken them to the wire both times. How can you take Duke and Memphis to the wire, when they have way more talent than us, and not be a good coach? How is that possible? You say he can't coach in March. How has he won 2 SEC tournaments? How were we a fallaway 3 away from playing for the NIT Championship? Yes, I know it's the NIT - but we played 3 formidable non-conference opponents to get to New York (including a team with Stan Christ Jones on the bench) and battled a damn good WV team to the buzzer on a neutral court. That's why the arguments get so bitter on here, because you are completely unreasonable with your hissy fits you throw about Stansbury.

For years, Darrin Horn had the most talented teams in the Sun Belt (Courtney Lee, Tyrone Brazelton, etc.) and never made the NCAA's because they would somehow lose to less-talented teams in the tournament, and go to the NIT. In 2008 they get the always sexy 12 vs. 5 matchup (and face a comically overseeded Drake), wins on a classic one-shining-moment-level buzzer beater, and then face the 13 seed to get to the Sweet 16! He then proceeded to parlay a Ty Rodgers buzzer beater and a "close game" against UCLA into a contract with perennial NIT powerhouse South Carolina.

What I'm saying is, good for him, but call me back when South Carolina makes the NCAA's.

And how did hiring a WKU coach work out for Georgia?

In 3 years tops, Horn will be looking for a job in the Sun Belt again. He is in for some crappy years after Downey graduates because he has failed to stock that team with much talent. Hell, even this year won't be very good for him. NIT again if he is lucky.
What was Horn's record against Stansbury again? I did not see your reply on that one.

to the ever-growing list of coaches that are allegedly better than Rick Stansbury that (a) regularly lose to him and (b) wind up getting shitcanned while Rick just keeps winning.

A. Florida and UT I'll give you.<div>B. Johnson had a senior-laden team last year and he did about what Brady could have done with it. This year he's showing he is nothing special.</div><div>C. Bama has sucked against everybody but us this year. Played their hearts out and played the game of their year last week against us. Wanna bet who wins the rematch in the Hump? You name the bet. We will bitchslap them.</div><div>D. Stans is not John Wooden. He's just the closest thing to John Wooden we've ever had. Including Babe McCarthy and Richard Williams. He has the wins. He has the championships. We get this 2011 recruiting class nailed down and he may get that Sweet 16.</div><div>
</div><div>On a tangent, this delusion people have about Stans being a great recruiter mystifies me. The only great recruits he's had actually play in a game for us might be Mario Austin, Donte Jones and Dampier. And that's over 15 years. How many Parade AAs have played for us? Stans has recruited kids who play defense and work hard. At least up until this year.</div>

You're making this easy for Coach.

Brady got fired with that roster, so no, he probably would not have won the SEC.
Bama beat Michigan and Baylor and played Purdue to the wire. They have hardly sucked. We have no easy wins left on our schedule. None.
Anyone comparing Stansbury and Dick Williams to Wooden should be castrated.
And my favorite...IF we get the recruits in TWO YEARS, then we MIGHT make the Sweet 16 ONE DAY. That's a lot of hoping and praying.
Then that is followed up by saying Rick is not a good recruiter, and giving him credit for two of Williams' players.

Coach says some dumb things but he is going to rip you apart on this one.

One question. Didn't Tas Mitchell miss Brady's last season?

with Courtney Lee, Tyrone Brazelton and Orlando Mendez-Valdez

If you are really saying you value winning two games one season (the only time he made it to the NCAA) over a decade of sustained success, you really have skewed perception of what success is.

1.Brady made the final four. And didn't have all-world beater Tasmin Mitchell his last year.<div>2. If Bama has done so damn well, then we shouldn't feel bad about barely losing to them in Tuscaloosa, should we? Wanna bet on the return game at the Hump? You name the stakes. </div><div>3. I said Stans wasn't John Wooden. If you slow down and read, you'll get it. He's just the best coach we've had and he's overwhelmingly likely to be better than anybody we could replace him with. That's what you guys just don't get. It's like the elevator doesn't reach the top floor for you on this issue. Several posters on here have made elegant, intelligent arguments and you and your mentor Coach 34 just walk right past the logic.</div><div>4. He did recruit those players for Williams. I don't know what to tell you on that one. You are aware he was the recruiting guru during the Williams years?</div><div><div>
