I like the trend I'm seeing from the SWC teams' non-conference games. Instead of scheduling tomato cans as they've done in the past, I think they now realize there was a gulf between Chicagoland and the Metro East, so they have to play better programs to be playoff ready.

East Side has always done this - they start with Provi and Shreveport, LA Christian Acadamy - followed by EVille.

Eville plays NaperNorth then STL CBC, the top-ranked team in the area.

Belleville West has a game against Timber Creek, New Jersey. East starts out against STL Chaminade - always tough.

Although not in the SWC, Althoff travels to Houston for the final game of the regular season.

I hope that East and West can start being a factor at the state level, making the SWC better with ESL and Eville as the regular top dogs. For sure, that is a SPEED conference - let's hope it translates to deep playoff runs.

I think if any positives have come from scheduling issues is that teams "up here" are much more inclined to look downstate for games....yet the negative is well...your playing games against teams from across the country just to fill out a schedule. Don't get me wrong I like the premise just not the reasoning for in state teams needing to go OOS

Hate to admit it but the more I see the more a let them all in the state playoff scenario makes more sense...something has to be done with easing up scheduling

No one wanted Althoff in week 9 - thus the road trip to Texas. My senior year, we did not have a Week 9 game - and we looked as far as Tennessee, if I remember right.

Finding a week 9 game should be hard. How is there a schedule without a week 9 game?

South 7 - unlike the Big 10 - has the same number of teams as the name indicates. That means six conference games and three non-conference.

I believe they only have 6 and need 4 none conference games. Althoff, Cahokia, Carbondale, Centrailia, Marion and Mt. Vernon. Am I missing a team? I believe Conference games are weeks 4 through 8. Missouri is in District play during week 9 so that eliminates them. Typically the MVC has week 9 opening but I am sure none of them want to play Althoff.

CRAP - you're right. I could have swore there were seven teams total. There are only six.

We used to close with Triad - but that's because Bassler started out under Coach Schott. Now that game makes less send for them to end the season if they need a win to get in.

When you are starting to find success such as Althoff finding an oppenant locally becomes a challenge. As with most successful programs. I think ESL , O'fallon and E'ville are gonna have to go out of state to find 2 more games next year losing Collinsville and Granite City

How did O'Fallon suck so much last year?

Yeah - ESL, Eville and the Belleville schools will be traveling a lot to fill schedules. There are some great teams in STL and KC - that might be where they find games.

As for Althoff, the class of 17 accomplished so much that I hope it is sustainable without such an incredible collection of athletes. I do see Althoff becoming more of a destination school for transfers ... those who either can't hack it at ESL or won't go to that school.

One thing Turner has done is draw local black kids into the program - there might be 20 percent of the roster that's white, which is a complete flip from 1991. (That's not a racial thing - or if is - it's not meant to be negative or demeaning.)

Why don't they line up some home and away non con games with the Valleys and Naperville's when grantite city and collinsville go away? Those 5 teams are looking for games in 2018 and 2019 as well

I was at O'Fallon in the spring for the Rivals camp had a good talk with HC Joggerst and even back in the spring he admitted that they were seeing a lot of transfers out to other schools and it seems like that's having a big time impact...
