To improve the perception of MSU;

Sixpackspeak. I have had people ask what the hell that means. I have had people ask if it was abunch of drunk State fans.

It is amazing that some rebellious kids started their own site and have grown into "media" according to the University. As big of a joke as that is, it is the Universities choice. So do the fanbase a favor and change the name...

Thread hijack. Mississippi College is planning to change their name to something with "university." I hope they go with Mississippi University just to add to the confusion.

What are the criteria for being called a university nowadays? Used to be you had to offer a certain number of Master's and PhD's but that seems to be out the window now and every small college is called a university.

I don't know about the guys who pay the bills for this site, but if I was one of them I'd tell the guy who started this thread where he could shove his name change. If you don't like it, leave.

They do have a number of master's programs as well as doctorates in counseling and education. But I don't know numbers.

I read the pack on my phone on the train home every night (~45 minutes) and the person who sits next to me always thinks I'm a drunk who reads/posts on an alcoholics' board. I've had the same reaction when I worked as a runner one summer at a law firm.

I think it's hilarious and it should never change.

SixPackSpeak has never received a media credential so I don't know how we have grown into "media". Never written an article. Always been a message board only.

You realize it comes from Gene's, right? Per the lexicon: "The Six Pack - A group of posters that arrived on the Swan's internet message board in the summer of 2002. If the University considers us as "media", then the MSU media relations director needs to be looking for a new job.
