Memphis and Southern Miss. Who would you sign with?

We'll say you're from Starkville, so 3+ hours from both schools.

Southern. Closer to the beach and New Orleans, better facilities, better tradition, you're more popular than the basketball team, won't be down forever.

No amount of money or fame could make me go to Memphis. USM might be THE worst team from the last 2 years, but Memphis is a **** school that no one including students and alumni care about. And if you go past the last 2 years they take the cake as one of if not the worst D1 school in the last decade.

I actually don't mind Hattiesburg either.

I might just go to JUCO though.

I was going to say Memphis, because Hattiesburg blows so hard. But you sold me on USM being close to NO. Either way, that's a rough choice.

Unless you could have the "ghost" of Joe Lee Dunn coaching at Memphis, I go to Southern every day of the week. Memphis is cool to visit but I can live in Hattiesburg, not a problem at all. Nice town.

The only reason I could see a person picking Memphis over Hattiesburg would be if you were really into the BBQ and Blues scene. Otherwise, Memphis is one of America's most dangerous cities, and the university is in a horrible part of town. USM is down now in football, but they will be back to qualifying for bowl games in a few years. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Memphis has ever won more than 9 games in a season?

And for folks bashing Hattiesburg: beside MSU, what does Starkville have that's so great in comparison to Hattiesburg? Hattiesburg has way more eats, shopping, bigger movie theatre, and night life. Not to mention you can be on the coast or in New Orleans in under 2 hours.

I'm assuming you mean an offer to play football, but can you clarify? If we're talking football, there aren't many things on earth that could convince me to go play for UofM.

I love when people rail on Hattiesburg for no reason. Hattiesburg is always fun anytime I'm there. Fun bar scene, really cool places to eat, nice shopping etc. That area is also one of the fastest growing in the state. I think it's only behind the Southaven/Olive Branch area and that's because people are fleeing from Memphis.

Hattiesburg is one of the few cities in Mississippi I could live in. Jackson metro, Biloxi/Gulfport metro, Hattiesburg, Desoto County, not much more.

Bingo. It's a stupid argument. Hattiesburg is a cool town. Thing I really like about the burg is the laid back atmosphere. It's just a different feeling. Good nightlife, really good restaurants, and cool people. I went to college in Hattiesburg before finishing in Starkville and I've partied plenty in Oxford. The USM vibe is friendlier and less uptite than the other 2.

Just so I'm clear: you got an uptight feeling in Starkville?

I have no issues with Hattiesburg, but I will stick with it doesn't feel like a college. It's just a town with a college in it. If I could, I would put MSU in Hattiesburg though.

I really enjoy living here, much more to do than when I was in Starkville. Deer camp is an hour to the north and fish camp is an hour south. You have good restaurants in chesterfields, half shell, patio 44 and both of Robert St Johns. And you good bars like mahogany and keg.

Southern because Hattiesburg is a pretty cool place to live. Don't get me wrong, USM is a terrible school, but I would much rather live in Hattiesburg than Memphis.

The University is actually in a great part of town. Neighborhoods to the south are sketchy, but the surrounding neighborhoods are great and feature the most elite country club in Memphis, the most elite boy's private school, and some of the best neighborhoods in their price ranges. It's also right in between Mid-town nightlife and East Memphis amenities.

Are yall serious? Memphis. They might have gone 3-9 this year but they are much improved.

Lost to Duke by 2 TDs, MTSU by 2, UCF by 7, Houston by 10, SMU by 5, Louisville by 7.

They aren't that far off from a bowl team. Plus, the ACC is a better than the CUSA.

USM was one of the worst teams last year. I'd much rather play on a competitive team.

MGCCC. You're basically in Hattiesburg and can reevaluate in 2 years.

Not that a scholarship in any sport was ever a real option for me.
