Note: Banks mentioned something on twitter the other night about Calhoun being the next lockdown corner at State, so maybe he is not going to be at safety.[/b]</div><div style="min-width: 0px; max-width: 99%; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: rgb(190, 190, 190); "><br style="min-width: 0px; "></div><div style="min-width: 0px; max-width: 99%; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: rgb(190, 190, 190); "><b style="min-width: 0px; "><u style="min-width: 0px; ">ATH[/u][/b]</div><div style="min-width: 0px; max-width: 99%; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: rgb(190, 190, 190); "><font class="Apple-style-span" color="#660000" style="min-width: 0px; "><b style="min-width: 0px; ">Deonte Evans 5'11/187 McComb *** [MSU][/b]</font></div><div style="min-width: 0px; max-width: 99%; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: rgb(190, 190, 190); "><font class="Apple-style-span" color="#660000" style="min-width: 0px; "><b style="min-width: 0px; ">Adairius Barnes 5'11/180 Port Gibson *** [MSU][/b]</font></div><div style="min-width: 0px; max-width: 99%; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: rgb(190, 190, 190); "><font class="Apple-style-span" color="#660000" style="min-width: 0px; "><b style="min-width: 0px; "><br style="min-width: 0px; ">[/b]</font></div><div style="min-width: 0px; max-width: 99%; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: rgb(190, 190, 190); "><b style="min-width: 0px; "><u style="min-width: 0px; ">K[/u][/b]</div><div style="min-width: 0px; max-width: 99%; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: rgb(190, 190, 190); "><font class="Apple-style-span" color="#660000" style="min-width: 0px; "><b style="min-width: 0px; ">Devon Bell [MSU][/b]</font></div>

...all you people bitching about how Mullen can't recruit can shut your pie holes now.

I really don't see how anybody will ever sign a better class than this @MSU.

It's not Texas & LSU level of talent, but it's about as good as it will get @MSU.

I have just 2 complaints:

1) Considering the arm Russell has, it's a damn shame he doesn't have a go-to WR on the roster.

While many of you ***** about the OL, I think MSU's WR's are pathetic. Have no idea if these new recruits will be an upgrade in talent.

2) Need that 3rd QB. The indian burial ground demons will have a heyday once they receive word MSU is down to 2 QB's.

Ward and Beniquez Brown yes. But I doubt Liggins and I especially doubt Alford.

There are around5-7I think we are in the hunt for and really want. Channing Ward, Beniquez and Richie Brown, Travell Dixon, Michael Flint (We are in his Top 3), Damien Jacobs, Kyron Samuels (emergency plan I think in case someone bolts or we have an unclaimedscholarship on signing day), andJaviie Mitchell (rumor is he's looking to decommit from Auburn and switch to us). There are some other names out there, but these are the guys I think will be the most likely for us to have a chance at signing.

they are just all slot receivers!

We need a tall big body downfield threat. And from practice reports is appears that Joe Morrow is definitely going to fill that bill next season.

..I don't know who coaches WR @ MSU, but he needs to be replaced with somebody who knows how to teach discipline & fundamentals.

There is really no reason for the WR's @ MSU to be as consistently bad as they are.

..Mullen will earn his $2.5 million once he gets MSU to a BCS bowl.

Of course, if he is going to do that, he needs at least 2 more recruiting classes like this one.

And they are fast but they can't outrun the DB's in the SEC.They need to get mis-matches to get open. We don't have any big receivers playing now that allow our slot receivers to be what they should be. Imagine the Patriots with nothing but Wes Welkers. He's made a killing in this league because they always had a big threat that allowed him to get free in the middle. This year they are having to use their TE's to work the middle because they don't have much of a deep threat.
If Morrow turns out to be as good as he sounds to be in practice you will see Bumphis's numbers go up by being able to play a true slot receiver role. Well that's my opinion, and I sure hope it's true.

http://recruiting.blogs.g...s-2012-class-size/?tc=ar

We signed 24 last year. 4 of them were early enrolees, meaning they can count back to the previous signing class. So, it's basically like we signed 20 last year. We can add 5 early enrolees from this season to that total from last year, to get the number back to the max of 25 from last year, then we can add 25 more this year...

If I'm wrong, and it is possible, I'd like it clearly defined for me why/how. I can reason through the rule and come up with 30. I have yet to have anyone reasonably explain to me how they came up with 28, although that is the number that has been thrown around repeatedly.

and he said the max number of guys MSU can sign for 2012 is 28 with a max of 3 counting back to last year. I don't know how that plays into last year's #. I thought we signed 22 last year. Have no idea how many we signed as early enrollees. Since Paul gets paid to know something like that for a living, I trust him. No offense to you.

One thing I'm positive of is that you can't "count ahead" on recruits...only backwards.

I understand that Paul said that and everyone else has just accepted it. I can't. I'm just not sure he completely understood the new rule when he did... or maybe he does and I don't. Maybe Mullen told him that number, as we know his overall stance against oversigning(past 85) and maybe that 28 number gets us to an "expected" 85, I don't know.

I am just unwilling to just accept a number someone threw out, when the math everyone else(Florida) uses on the rule disagrees with it. I challenge anyone to research the information that is out there and make me understand why/how 28 is our hard limit...

but you want to give the kids benefit of the doubt since they have already committed to your program as a fan. I am sure the coaches have plans and don't want to make those public at this time.

and as far as teh 85, he also said that the departure of Favre and anyone else would have no impact on the 28 number. Foronce said Mullen gave the 3 and 28 numbers. Are you saying that our head coach and compliance director are wrong and need to clearly explain it to you? I'm just going to have faith that between Mullen, Brett, and Paul Jones, 28 is right. You were already wrong on the number of guys we signed last year so you may want to step out there a little, and just go with it.

Last year we signed 22 but none could count back due to us signing a full class a year earlier. Then we had one not enroll but we replaced him by putting cherrington on scholarship. This put last years class at 22, leaving us with only 3 spots to count back this year.

The 85 number is a hard cap. It is universal over ALL NCAA D1 football programs. That does NOT prevent teams from oversigning. Think about it. 25x4 does not equal 85. Why do you think they even made the 25 rule to begin with? Most of the SEC does this every year and "the numbers work themselves out." Our own basketball coach makes a living doing this. Mullen in the past has gone against oversigning. This "may" be why he will only sign 28.

24/7 has us at 24 for last year
http://mississippistate.2...com/Recruit/Commits/2011

Espn has us at 23

Scout and Rivals at 22

We DEFINITELY had 4 early enrolees that can count to the previous class.
http://blogs.clarionledge...es-four-early-enrollees/

I used 24/7 as a "worst case scenario."

With your 22 number being used to try to "disqualify" me here, that would back count to 18, meaning we could sign 7 EE's this year + 25 = 32.

Don't give me any "he said" as proof that's the way things are. There are a MILLION reasons Brett and Mullen could say that number that do not have anything at all to do with the NCAA mandated limits. In which case, that's fine, but I need clarification. Read the new rule. Look how it's being applied elsewhere. Make the numbers work out at 28. Like I say, it may be something Mullen does (no oversigning), but I have yet to see anything whatsoever making me believe 28 is our hard NCAA-mandated cap.

So for instance, we signed 22 last year. Eventhough 4 enrolled early and could have potentially counted back to 2010 (assuming there was room), I don't believe we can use that to say we only signed 18 last year. In regards to this years class, you have to count all 22 signees from last year.

I don't think you can keep looking back. Otherwise you'd have to keep a rolling count - and if you managed the numbers right, you'd eventually be able to build up & sign75 guys over 2 years.
