Missouridawg and DS will work out the details on the money for this but I want to gauge the interest of the pack to see what we could do.

The idea right now is to raise some money to buy bowl tickets and possibly offer some cash for the day (parking, food at the game, etc) to people who may need a boost during the holidays. We could do this for St. Jude's or another charity in the area. It could become a great annual thing to do when/if we go to bowl games.

A few questions:

1. Are you interested in donating? (Doubtful we'll be able to do tax receipts FYI). We'll do it through paypal for security and transparency. Even 5 bucks would be great considering the number of people who post and view the website daily.

2. Any other ideas on how, who, where the money can be spent in the Memphis area?

1. Yes.

2. May be cool to include an MSU t-shirt but that could add some complexity to the idea and we are doing this last minute with quick planning.

Sorry for the earlier question about the amount. I deleted it. Just answer if you are interested. No need in posting the amount. We'll figure it out if we go forward with this.

Yes

Maybe even get Stricklin/MSU to match? We raise money for tickets and MSU give the same amount of tickets to said charity?

I have a buddy that works in Memphis with St. Jude's Dream Homes. If y'all want to go with St. Jude, I'd be glad to ask him for contact info for someone to coordinate on their end.

Great idea. I'm in.

Anything kid related would be great regardless of city. The kids need something fun (illness permitting, of course) and the act of kindness might even convert a few families to Bulldog fans. St. Jude is obviously a great organization in Memphis. The only thing I would add is that LeBonheur gets overlooked from time to time and there are tons of kids there that need the distractions, too. Regardless, as long as the kids are having a good time, it doesn't matter which org it is. Just my $0.02.

Heck as much as I dislike MSU football, I like the idea of someone less fortunate being able to get to go to the game.

1. I prefer a Mississippi charity for special needs individuals due to personal reasons.

2. However, a Memphis charity the size of St. Jude would be easiest at this juncture in time.

Just let me know how to pitch in. Being a broke college student won't let me give much, but it's for the cause.

Agree completely on St. Jude, LeBonheur, and doing this for kids and their families if possible.

I would like to point out one thing for 57 Strat. If we had not gone to a bowl game this year, we would not be doing this. Advantage: Bowl game.

I also have a friend that does PR for St. Jude and is a State grad. So she'd probably like this. Also have a friend that is an RN at LeBonheur's that played soccer at State, husband played baseball.

I would be all in for St Jude's. Perhaps we could challenge the Rice Owl fans to a fund raising contest. Send the results to ESPN before the game and possibly get a little free positive PR.

Might be too late in the game for that. If school was still in session, then I think it'd be a great idea.

This might not be a popular opinion but how about contacting Coach34 and those over on ED and having a contest to see which board can raise the most money?

Let me throw this out there because I have done this before with Ole Miss tickets. Ole Miss made it very clear that nobody receiving any benefit could be in high school. It doesn't matter if they are dirt poor and going to die of cancer with in the week. I'm not trying to be a kill joy as I think that rule is absurd, I just wanted to help your planning. Carry on with a great idea.

Sad that this must be a consideration, but one that would easily be overlooked. Actually, I would welcome the potential conflict on that one, but I suppose it's not worth troubling the University over...

Not necessarily true. If the kid is athlete, sure. But kids get free stuff from universities all the time. While I was in high school Ole Miss sent The North Face backpacks with an Ole Miss logo on the front full of stuff in them to the 2 national merit semifinalists in my class.

Football players routinely give their bowl gifts to kids' hospitals in face-to-face exchanges.

Probably a good idea to get someone who matters to sign off, but I'm in...

Just a thought and not trying to be negative nancy here, but how many kids at those hospitals are going to be allowed to go to the game? Not saying all the kids that are in the hospitals are terminal but most do have restrictions and I'd be willing to bet sitting out in the (possibly) cold weather for four hours in late december is probably one of them. They'll be some for sure who will go but they probably need your time or money more than football tickets.

Yeah, that would be my take as well. We have to worry about this stuff with official chapter functions, but the bottom line is that if you avoid intentionally targeting athletes you'll be in good shape. If you want to bribe non-athletes to attend State, more power to you.

I bought the tickets from ole miss and donated to the Tennessee baptist children's home in Memphis. This is a great charity by the way. Ole miss stipulated they could not go to anyone in high school. Maybe they were being overly protective, but that's what they told me.

We should definitely be careful then. One wrong move, and Will Redmond might lose another year of eligibility.

I will quickly add if st. Jude doesn't work out I can guarantee the children's home will use the tickets and they will take the kids, not give them to a bunch of social workers or something. I have donated tickets in the past and checked up on them. They have no ties to Ole Miss whatsoever, I just found them to be a legit charity.
