Stadium seats in the shade

Hi. Hoping to go to NJ this weekend for the game. Looks like Sunday will be warm and sunny which is great!

Unfortunately, I have one person that must be in the shade. What row on the Rutgers sideline is far enough back such that we would be in the shade from say noon-3pm? Not knowing the direction of the stadium layout, would I have better luck on the visitors' side?

Along these lines, if you are willing to sell me 3 club seat tix, I'm willing to pay what it takes! None are available on stubhub.

Thanks, Jim

Visitor side (west) is more in the shade. Try to get lower tier but fairly high up to be under the upper deck.

First.. try the ticket office and explain the situation.. if it is a disability thing they might be able to make special accommodations.. 866-445-GORU (4678) during office hours, 9AM to 5PM,

Gonna be hard to get. Sun should start high overhead behind, say, section 134 in top-right endzone and end behind bottom-right endzone. The scoreboard in that endzone may provide shade but that's the student section.. you might be able to squeeze in there as students routinely cram more in a row than tickets allow for.. leaving blank sections.

If you are very high up in teh sideline 100's you should be under an overhang and maybe in shade. Hmm.. you might be able to talk your way into folding seats to standing room on the west (bottom here) sideline in levels between the lower bowl and the upper deck. I see people there sometimes but think it is for some kind of group even.

The club seating is between decks on teh east side.. the top of this diagram. good luck.

Wearable umbrella?
What these guys said.
I just went on the Scarlet Knights Ticket site (link below, if it works).
See there are three seats in Section 101, Row 42 (second row from top). This should give you shade most of the time, and if not, you can kindly ask the security people if the person in your party can stand against the wall behind the seats. We sat second row from top in Section 107 closer to north end zone for years, and for noon games, we would have sun for part of first half. There are also seats in Row 42 in Section 107, but I would take Section 101 over Section 107 to avoid the sun.

Thanks all. Will wait a couple days to see if club seats become available. If nothing pops up will go with the sections you suggest. We, however, won't ask Rutgers to make special accommodations for us. My wife never wants to be "that guy"

Don't think Club Seats will be very useful considering the trajectory of the sun, unless you stay inside the club, or perhaps sit in sections 13 or 14. We sit in section 9, and the sun can be brutal for noon games.

As someone who has an autonomous nervous disorder that causes me to easily faint in the heat and a separate issue that requires me to strictly limit sun exposure, I can tell you that SHI stadium is a very difficult environment to deal with for a noon September game. There aren’t many places to sit. If your wife really needs to stay out of the sun her only options are either the very highest rows in the lower bowl on the visitor side or the Club.

Yea, if we got the club seats we would just stick her inside while the rest of us are in the seats.

You remember those old Batman shows in the 1960's with Mr. Freeze? If Mr. Freeze wasn't in the part of the room that was sub-zero, he would weaken. That's life with Julie!

I remember being at a game prior to end zone addition and there was a visitor section in the hot sun right near some portable toilets. Man did that section stink in the heat .

Old stadiums.. and SHi is in the footprint of a stadium from.. 1938? A partial natural bowl. Well, they were build to use the sun to provide the lighting for early afternoon games. The home team would me in the afternoon shade and the visitors baking in the sun.

I'd guess newly built stadiums are mostly indoor and they probably make orientation choices for other reasons.. but probably would not want direct sunlight streaming through windows in order to control lighting and heat from the sun. But newer outdoor stadiums like the Niner's Levi Stadium.. they do the full shade thing still with home stands at SW backing rather than directly west. They don't care if the sun can light the whole field evenly at any time... they have stadium lights for that.

I never thought about it that way. Great points.

Think this is the best suggestion.

For those 3 hours, don’t think you’d be able to watch much without finding yourself in the sun at some point unless you’re in one of the handicapped sections at the top of the lower bowl.

You’re not. That’s their job.

And it’s not like they don’t have 25-30,000 seats unsold seats for the game…

Upon further "reflection," we were out of the sun the entire time, even in our outside seats. I think for a 3:30 start, that will be different.

Pretty well! We got row 38 in section 103. Sun was bad at kick-off, but we were in the shade 5 min into the 2nd quarter (a little after 1pm). For the first quarter, Julie watched from the top of the student section, using the large stadium display for shade (with about 1000 others!)

Thanks all for the input. Had a great time!

The only dig I have is on the food. I now know where to go to find the worst hot dogs in the world! Although this was my fault. The rest of the fam got amazing food on the boardwalk, but I waited until the game started to eat.
