I don't post much anymore, but thought I'd chime in on the stans-bashing.
btw: hi peaches, you still suck :)

Question: Is Stans the best coach ever to grace the floor of a college basketball arena?
Answer: No

The real question we have though, is he the best coach for us. He recruits well, coaches ok
and gets us to big games. He hasn't proven himself in the NCAA tourney but at least he's gotten
us there with reasonable consistency.

It takes a long time to develop a tradition, and we're not there yet. We don't have the draw of a
kentucky or duke in hoops. Hell, we're only a few steps up from ole miss, and those guys are terribad.

While not a huge stans fan, I remember the 90s, where we all bitched about Jackie Sherrill offenses,
and not throwing to tight-ends while we won games. We kept thinking there was something better,
and when we finally dropped sherrill, we picked up an offensive ***-hat named croomz. Oh ya, and
we lost a lot. At least under Stans we're not the laughing stock of the conference. Hell, we're in the upper
third, but I guess conference results don't matter to rabid, hate-stans-at-all-costs-contingent.

The NCAA tournament in hoops can be a crapshoot, as long as we get there consistently we'll have a decent
shot at doing well. While Stans isn't great, let's reserve our hard-core bashing for coaches that are really letting
us down (and losing).

Caveat: Stans can still improve a lot as a floor coach. Additionally, idk what happens but ncaa tourney prep
seems lacking. That being said, he's still doing a damn good job for us, so why not appreciate a bit more than hate?

Ps. listening to the texas whinining after the national champ game in football has been great.

cheers, and happy drinking

of making it to the last sixteen teams still standing, that should suffice. Let's face it, it's a transitional module between the fall game and the spring game...it's something to watch on tv if we're fairly good.

family guy at Mississippi State. I mean the odds of Stans out drinking late like AK last year aren't great. That is something I appreciate. I still don't know how AK survived all that up North.

Which is sad since basketball has easily been our best sport going on a decade and a half now. 15 years of it being consistently the best, yet its at best 3rd.

Curious, what is it at worst? 5th priority? 6th? What the hell could possibly be ahead of men's basketball besides baseball and football?

In fact, I'd argue that the following SEC schools are more of a basketball school

(all numbers since 1970)

Kentucky (33 NCAA Tournaments, 7 Final Fours, 3 NCAA titles, 19 SEC titles, 12 SECT titles)
Arkansas (25 NCAA Tournaments, 10 Sweet 16s, 6 Elite 8, 4 Final Four, 1 NCAA Title, 10 conference titles, 7 conference tournament titles)
Florida (14 NCAA Tournaments, 6 Sweet 16s, 4 Elite 8, 4 Final Four, 2 NCAA Titles, 4 SEC titles, 3 SECT titles)
LSU (18 NCAA Tournaments, 7 Sweet 16s, 5 Elite 8, 4 Final Four, 7 SEC Titles, 1 SECT title)
Alabama (19 NCAA Tournaments, 8 Sweet 16s, 1 Elite 8, 5 SEC titles, 5 SECT titles)
Tennessee (16 NCAA Tournaments, 5 Sweet 16s, 5 SEC titles, 1 SECT title)

We are here:
MSU (9 NCAA Tournaments, 2 Sweet 16s, 1 Elite 8, 1 Final Four, 2 SEC titles, 3 SECT titles)

We are on par with
Vanderbilt (9 NCAA Tournaments, 6 Sweet 16s, 2 SEC titles)
Auburn (13 NCAA Tournaments, 4 Sweet 16s, 1 SEC title, 1 SECT title)
Georgia (eight NCAA Tournaments, 1 Sweet 16, 1 Final Four 1 SEC title, 1 SECT title)
South Carolina (eight NCAA Tournaments, 3 Sweet 16s, 2 conference titles)

and ahead of
Ole Miss (6 NCAA Tournaments, 1 Sweet 16, 1 SECT title)

Using this point system:
NCAA Tournament appearance - 1
conference Tournament title - 2
NCAA Sweet 16 appearance - 3
conference title -5
NCAA Elite 8 appearance - 5
NCAA Final Four - 10
NCAA Champion - 15

Kentucky -247
Arkansas - 204
Florida - 148
LSU - 141
Alabama - 83
Tennessee - 58
MSU - 46
Vanderbilt - 37
Auburn - 32
Georgia - 28
South Carolina - 27
Ole Miss - 11

We're at the top of the lower half of the SEC in basketball tradition in the last 40 years.

Basically:

20 points for a national championship
12 points for a BCS bowl (Tier 1)
8 points for a Cotton/Capital One Bowl (Tier 2)
5 points for any other SEC-affiliated bowl (Tier 3)
3 points for a non-SEC affiliated bowl
1 point for a winning season
2 points for eight wins
4 points for 10 wins
6 points for 12 wins

You wanna take a guess where we end up over the past 20 years?

Tennessee and Alabama especially. In the last 10-20 years, we've become a basketball school.

have come since 1995. You make a valid point

Since 1995:
Kentucky 135
Florida 117
LSU 41
MSU 40
Arkansas 32
Tennessee 27
Alabama 19
Auburn 16
Vanderbilt 10
Ole Miss 8
South Carolina 8
Georgia 6

I guess you could say that since 1995, we are the fourth best program in the SEC, and are right there with LSU for third behind Florida and Kentucky, who have both won two national titles since '95. However, in Stans' tenure - SEC West (since 1998)

LSU 41 (3 SEC titles and a Final Four run)
Alabama 18
Auburn 16 (2 Sweet 16s edge State out)
MSU 15
Arkansas 12
Ole Miss 7

What you're saying is that Stansbury has taken a program that has traditionally been in the bottom half of the league and moved it to the top third of the league.

Where we consistently remain year-in and year-out under Coach Stansbury.

Hmmm. Interesting.
