Stans interview - Discusses the Moultrie quote

He looks and talks like a guy who thinks the end is near. He looks tired, he looks worn down. He also looks clueless as to how to fix it. It makes you think that a fresh start might be good for both MSU and Stansbury.

Stansbury has never been a good technician or in-game coach, and that is all on him. However, I do feel some sympathy for him having to deal with these guys. The constant suspensions and these idiots would make me want to get the hell out of coaching or strangle some of them. Of course Stansbury makes the big bucks and coaches in a big-boy league, so he gets paid to deal with it and is ultimately 100% responsible.

With all that said though, I am betting Stansbury calls Moultrie in his office. Shuts the door. And gives Moultrie an *** kissing like he has never had. Stans will promise him touches on every possession, anything he can, to get this team back and win the last two.

He looks beaten and tired. And honestly, I don't blame him. I do think it's time for a change, and maybe he feels that way too. However, I hope we can let him go with dignity and with as much love as possible; him resigning would suffice that best, I think. For all the Coach34 cronies and Stans haters out there: Rick has invested himself and his family into Mississippi State; yes he has underachieved, but the only reason we have expectations at all, unlike South Carolina or Ole Miss, is because he put them there. Rick has won more games, recruited more talent, and gotten us more national recognition (other than '96, obviously) than we've ever garnered before; so give it a rest guys.

Rick was the primary reason we went tothe Sweet 16 in '95 and the Final Four in '96.Theunabashed hatred of him by a portion of our fanbase completely blinds them to the fact thathe assembled those teams.

Well said, Athens.

But for God sakes, the man deserves some appreciation from the fanbase. This wild hatred of him, his wife and his kids is pretty embarrassing. Rick is a terrific guy and a great representative of the university. I think he knows the end is near just from the way he looks on the sidelines during the games and his comments afterwards. I think he would be well served to resign, take a year off and then come back with a fresh start somewhere else, much like Mark Gottfried did. 14 years is a long time to stay at any one place. But while I do agree with everyone that says a change needs to be made, I don't agree with all the vitriol being thrown his way. He did win an outright SEC championships and 2 SEC Tournament championships, and took us to the NCAA Tournament 4 straight years, which is the only time that has ever been done. He deserves to go out with some dignity.

I was just trying to be funny above. I was frustrated Saturday too. But I hope Stans can get to Moultrie and go out on a positive. I remember this program before he and Williams. I appreciate what he has done.

People can say what they want about comments like that not being said to the media, which I agree with to an extent. But it's not like MSU is the only school in the nation that gets these kids with big egos that like to tweet and run their mouths. All schools worth a damn have them, but they also have good coaches that can control them as well. Stansbury hasn't been able to do that for a few years now atleast. While some may say Moultrie's comments were out of line, I say he's spot on with them. They don't play as a team, they're out for their own success and show no desire to win. The cancer to the team is the lack of drive instilled into these players to win these "underdog" road games, and that starts with a coach. Think about UK's players and their egos. If they played for us they'd run Stansbury over....no way he could control them. However, you get someone in there that can handle a team consistently year after year, then you've got something. We would be significantly worse without Moultrie right now...no way he's a cancer.

gone as much as the next guy but it's not like Moultrie has been getting 28 points and 14 boards in these 5 losses. If he leads by example like he just said he does then he should shut the 17 up by example. His comments today are "cancerous".

I'm not saying I excuse his comments, but he is right. It's also hard to lead by example when you touch the ball less than five times offensively. Statements like that make me think people expect him to be a 25 and 15 guy every time he steps on the court, which is the case with very few collegiate players in this country. I remember after the LSU game we lost everybody saying how awful Moultrie played. He didn't have his best game, but he also had a double double that game. Clearly there was a cancer on this team before his comments, hence our 5 game skid. His comments in my opinion are something a few players and the coach (depending on your view of him) on this team need to hear. I'm sick of Stans deflecting questions like everything is alright. 17 that. Somebody had to eventually say something, and if nobody did then they were all brainwashed with comfort of a crappy situation. If any player at all should be tagged as cancerous to this team it should be Nasty Nardo.

Could it just be coincidence that after Pat Knight ripped his team in a postgame press conference, they went out and won their next game by 25 points? Sometimes the players need to be blasted in order to wake them up and get them to start playing well. Stans obviously isn't going to do that, so Moultrie did. Hopefully it will jar the team awake and they'll play better the rest of the season.

is 320lbs of cancer. No doubt. His lack of hustle and toughness is the biggest problem with this team.
