"Stansbury, the lone dissenter against abolishing divisions in the SEC,
maintained his stance today and was as passionate as any coach when
discussing the change. In fact, he believes the only way the new system
will work is if there’s 22 league games, a schedule that would obviously
affect schools’ flexibility when scheduling non-conference games. Stansbury did bring
up a new argument in his defense today among the discussion that the
11-1 vote by the SEC’s coaches to abolish divisions. Great idea, right?
“If that’s the case, then why did the Big Ten just go to divisions?
What’s their reasoning?” Stansbury asked. Update, 12:32 p.m.: By the way, unless I’m wrong here, the Big Ten does not have divisions in basketball. I’ll doublecheck on that."

I've heard him speak a couple of times in the last few years, and he always drives home the point that the only teams in the SEC to have won more games that State are Florida and UK. And then he throws out a lot of other kinda impressive stats concerning State's overall presence in the SEC and so forth. So, if he's so proud that we've stood up against the entire conference, why the hell does this bother him? It's obvious an SEC West title don't mean jack.

Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Arkansas and LSU ...now he can't hang a banner unless he beats KY and FL
if I was Stansbury for me, my program, and my family I would want divisions ALL DAY LONG

what I don't understand is why the other 5 didn't want divisions?

I didn't like losing the basketball divisions either. To me, they make more sense in basketball than in any other sport because they provide the only real level playing field schedule-wise to determine a winner. In football, the schedules are unbalanced with or without divisions. Samein baseball plus you play as many games against the opposite division as you do in your own division. That said, it's really not all that big of a deal. And the vote was 11-1. So STFU and get over it.

BTW, anybody heard what they're going to do about the schedule? Will we still play the same 5 teams twice each year or will we have 1 or 3 permanent 2-game opponents and rotate the rest to give a 16 (or maybe even an 18) game schedule?

because they were already made out... they have formed a committee to explore different scenarios for the other years

so for next year state will play the west twice and east once

is why we have to send Sidney all the way to Houston to get in shape. Apparently that is too big a task for our staff to handle? I mean, I understand training with a former NBA player, but they made it sound like we sent him there to get him in shape.

..if the division thing remains in place, the SECW teams have to play UK & UF only once in the regular season.

I think that is one reason Stansbury is for keeping the divisions.

I don't know if doing away with the divisions will cause MSU to have to play UK & UF more than once.

But with Vandy & UT on the rise, & Florida & UK always monsters, that's 4 SECE teams MSU would have to play only once if the division separation remained in tact.

You do away with the divisions & suddenly there is the possibility MSU might have to play UT, Vandy, Florida, & UK twice in the regular season.

If that's the case, then I agree with Stansbury: Keep the divisional format.

Unless the SEC goes to a 22-game schedule, it's not "fair" and calling an 18-game schedule that is a lie.

You know the one you can win and still not get an invite to the NCAA. And I think you are right about only wanting to play the East teams once a year, it's so much easier to get half the East teams once on your home court and then beat up on the retards, known as the SEC West... Stans loved to talk about those 6 SEC West Championships in 13 years, and now he won't have that as his main talking point about the success of his basketball program. Gonna be hard to justify keeping his *** around if we finish 5th or 6th in the SEC and keep on missing the NCAA tourney. I don't care about a West title, I want SEC Championships and another STATE team in the Final 4..... This is your chance Stans....
I do think we have to play each team twice and go to a 22 game SEC schedule, Stans isn't so fast to endorse that though..

".Despite every coach in the Southeastern Conference disagreeing with him, Rick Stansbury isn't quieting down.Mississippi State's veteran coach still doesn't like that the SEC has abolished divisions."
"Am I in favor of playing 22 games? I'm not so sure of that," Stansbury said. "

Stans wants SEC West Banners

although he will come back in shape if he is taking it seriously. I know RS doesn't have the room for improvement that Rhodes had, but I still expect RS to come back with better post moves and hopefully some defensive presence after spending time in Houston.
