First, i didn't see the game. Thank goodness my wife dragged me to dinner and a movie. Sounds like that decision was best tonight. I've always thought that Stans would be the coach to take us to the next level. It's obvious to me and pretty much everyone on this board that he doesn't have a clue when it comes to making in game adjustments. I never see him out coaching opponents. I think it really just comes down to one thing - he's not a smart guy. Nice, emotional at times, seems to fire up his players, but he's never done anything in regards to even coming close to being a solid floor coach. Greg has to pull the trigger soon. Kennedy is a good floor coach - he's got a good staff of recruiters - We have to go out right now and get someone who knows how to coach. If we do, then the recruiting won't fall off too much. Why not go out and get Mike Anderson from Missouri?! It's frustrating - this is the toughest season to watch as a fan, and if Ole Miss gets into the Tourney this year, @#$#!

Mizzou basketball= MSU baseball We will NOT be able to outbid them for Anderson. Basketball is BIG time there.

We would have a better shot at getting their football coach than their basketball coach.

1. What does Ole Miss have to do with our situation? They were picked to have a good team in the preseason so making the NCAAT should not be a surprise.
2. Stansbury has never seemed to fire up his players.
3. Mike Anderson ain't leaving Missouri to come to MSU. Why would he?
4. Kennedy is vastly overrated as a "floor coach". Most of his own fans wanted him fired last week even more than many of ours want Stansbury fired tonight.

That being said, I agree that this was the most frustrating season ever at MSU.

He inherited a horrible NC State program, took them to 5 straight NCAA Tournaments and a Sweet 16. Left and took over a horrible Arizona State program, and is on the verge of taking them to back to back NCAA Tournaments. He's an excellent floor coach and actually runs an offense, which includes actual plays. He also has some roots in the SEC, was an assistant at Kentucky from 1989-1993. About the same age as Stansbury. If we made him the right offer, who knows? I think we're a better basketball program than Arizona State with the right coach.

More Sendek info: Here is his offensive and defensive principles from his Wikipedia page. I think both would fit in well with this team. "Sendek's teams have come to be characterized by tenacious match-up zone defense,
and methodical offense. His style of offense incorporates many
Princeton principles into a modified motion offense, and is often
characterized by a center posting up at the top of the key, many
handoffs and lateral screens, as well as numerous backdoor cuts.
Sendek's teams often rely on the three point shot to set up the
backdoor play. Herb is a methodical coach and demands the same
from his players."

I would like to go after Scott Drew at Baylor. He inherited pretty much the worst situation you could, and he has managed to turn it around.

If we hired Sendek I would rejoin the Bulldog Club even though geography prevents me from attending any MSU athletic events.

Probably not or so I wouldn't think......I think we'd have to go after a successful mid-major guy or an up and coming assistantat a verysuccessful program or team...</p>

Stans would do great things with an assistant coach who know how to...coach. We need a super Stans Jones!<div>
</div><div>But, if we were to get a new head corch, we wouldn't have to relegate ourselves to an up and coming coach. The SEC is loaded with $ and talent but way short on good basketball coaches. A good, established coach could guarantee State a top three spot in the SEC year in and year out. That means trips to the Big Dance year in and year out.</div><div>
</div><div>Not ready to dump Stansbury just yet, but I have no doubts we could do better. The chance one takes it that you may do worse (see LSU).</div><div>
</div><div>Having said that, there needs to be some new blood on the assistant coaching staff and some serious heat put on Rick to produce next year. This year has been an unmitigated disaster from day 1. This team has been painful as hell to watch all year, even in victory.</div>

Assuming he'd do it and isn't in any legal trouble... he could teach Stans a TON about how to coach offense and draw up plays. He was a master of that at Tex A+M... He could also probably throw a good office party.

Football is slowly catching up, but Norm Stewart built a very competitive program up there... Anderson will stay at Mizzou as long as they want him too, and they'll make sure of that by keeping the money right.

Mike Anderson would've been an awesome hire for us, if we could've swung him in somehow...

Rick hasn't made any serious staff changes in 12 years. Why do you believe he would suddenly be willing to go hire a great assistant coach? Considering the fact that he hasn't made any significant staff changes in 12 years, I can only believe one thing about Rick: He is too insecure as a HC to have an assistant on staff who knows more about basketball than him. Why else would he keep Kirby & Cunningham around forever? The one guy most of you talk about as being a quality assistant, Stan Jones, wasn't even here long enough to unpack his suitcase. Idon't think Rick can handle not being the man with the answers on his staff. If he were going to make any significant changes within the program, he'd have done so by now. So please, why does anyone here honestly think he'd suddenly be willing to go out and get a couple of quality assistants? I'd love to hear that answer.

Agreed. It has nothing to do with what he is "willing to do."He may be against it initially, but if his boss leans on him he will do it.He is not going toget fired and take ahalf million dollar pay cut over his assistants. Rick will not be fired this year(nor should he be), but Byrne will have a talk with him about bringing in an offensive guy.

An answer consisting of "Because the Ninja tells him to" is NOT a valid answer. Even *if* he fired Kirby & Cunningham, why would he actually upgrade the assistants? aGAIN, the man is apparently too insecure to hire assistants who know more about a facet of the game than he does. So essentially we'd have assistants the same caliber of Kirby & Cunningham. He will ultimately make the decision on who his assistants will be, and they won't be Stan Jones. It's no coincidence the only guy most of you consider to be a quality assistant wasn't even here long enough to bother unpacking.

Gottfried's offensive playcalling over the length of a season rarely impressed me. I'd rather grab Lebo if Auburn dumps him. He had far more impressive offensive showings....just don't let him touch the D.

who Jones replaced and why.
I know Stan left on his own accord and we eventually filled the slot with Marcus Grant.

Greg Carter left to take the Starkville High job and Stan Jones just happened to be looking for a job because Leonard Hamilton and staff got canned in DC. It was understood from the beginning that Jones was a one year hire as he would rejoin Hamilton wherever he landed. If I'm not mistaken, Jones' wife didn't even make the move to Starkville for the year.

From what I've seen this year, I'm not so high on him anymore.

I still think he would do better with Stans team this year, but I don't have the same confidence I did before.
