The other day I was talking to a friend who was supposedly "in the know." Not sure how legit it is, but thought it was worth of discussion.<div>
</div><div>But he was saying that his higher up connections from the athletic department basically said that Stansbury had come to terms with Clemson about their job. He'd fill the vacancy there, and Kirby would move over one chair to take the head coaching job here in Starkville. Kirby was happy about the agreement of course.</div><div>
</div><div>But last minute something gave him cold feet and he pulled out. So he doesn't go to Clemson and he bumps Kirby back over to his old seat.</div><div>
</div><div>Kirby says, "Coach, you know I've been wanting a HC job for quite a while now. Maybe it's best if I go somewhere else to get more experience/exposure." So then he leaves and goes to Georgetown, probably a little pissed about getting his dream, and then having it taken away from him. Not sure how making a lateral move (or only a slightly better asst coach job) really helps him out.</div><div>
</div><div>Anyway, does this pass anyone's smell test?</div>

....would Stansbury leave, and at the same time Greg Byrne/Scott Stricklin be content with a promotion from within.

If Larry Templeton were still the AD, I might believe it, but not since 2008.

The signs seem to point to the fact that Stans was extremely close to leaving, but I doubt it went far enough for Kirby to be given the spot.

I do think Kirby left because of the lack of upward mobility from the assistant spot at MSU. If he pulls in some good recruits at Georgetown and they are successful, finding a good head coaching job would be much easier for him.

I can buy the Stansbury part, selling Kirby all day long. Kirby has tried for years to get a SWAC HC job and couldn't get one. No way we would turn the reigns over to Kirby!!</p>

... that he was going around telling folks that State wanted him to be the next Head Coach when Jackie left and he turned us down because he said we could never win in Starkville.Used it against us in recruiting Brandon Jackson, N Suh, etc.

Still can't stand that guy and am glad he unceremoniously got shown the door at UNC.

he had his dline players politicin' for him to get the HC job. He was an absolute POS and one of the main reasons our **** went downhill. Not only was every second of every day spent to get some sort of "angle" for himself, he also made the dline players absolutely worthless POS on and off the field. 17 THAT GUY!

They thought they had him. The fans on local sports radio up here were pretty excited about it.
