Clemson always started hot and usually fell apart in ACC play under Purnell to land them on the bubble. Come to think of it, Purnell was basically Andy Kennedy with the exception being he had a handful of years where he didn't fully choke on ACC play. Stans would get Clemson to the bubble the opposite way by blowing early games and making up ground in ACC play. He's the anti-Purnell with basically the same result.

On the flip side, what does that say about the Recruiter high tailing it out of Mississippi prior to having a chance to sign one of the biggest crops of talent ever in this state.

If this is true, sounds like The Recruiter didn't think he was going to get many at all of the 2011 bunch

2011 Class is heading elsewhere and Stans sees the writing onthe wall. Making the move while the $$ is good. I wish him all the best in the ACC, looks like he will get another shot at UNC and Williams.

I was lambasted a few weeks ago when I told you he had 2 offers and the usual idiot posters said I was clueless and who was the other. I was asked to not mention any other and hoped it would not go through. Why could anybody blame this guy for hauling *** with the stupid *** fans we have lke
coach, fish, thick, and others? Any potential coach who ever read this board would say no but hell no, I ain't going down there with that bunch of losers.

Hang on here. You couldnt have possibly meant the Clemson job since it wasnt vacantwhen you made that claim. Purnell was still solidlythe Clemson coach at that time.

He had over a decade at MSU before the seat started getting warm. I think that's completely fair. If he couldn't handle that then it's going to be very interesting to see what happens when UNC, Duke, Wake, Georgia Tech, etc stomp a mudhole in him annually. Don't think the Clemson faithful will give him 2 decades like MSU people apparently would.

if you think this fanbase is unique. He'll get much harsher treatment in the ACC.

And are you suggesting that he is leaving b/c of 6pack? Isn't this board just a minority?

Believe me, they are not as dumb as some on this board are. Just pray keenum and few who really care about MSU basketball talk him out of it.I told you clowns before Stans is very private and he was not going to play MSU against Auburn, Clemson, or anybody else, but money talks and I am positive they have enriched the offer to make it difficult to not take it but I do know it has never been about all money with Rick, but don't think for a minute he and his assistants are not aware of how utterly stupid some of our fans are. Now we can see how Coach, Blue, Thick. Fish, and the rest of you enjoy going back to the years of being the laughing stock of the SEC. If Stans goes, look for Bost and Sydney to be gone too. Enjoy your misery, you deserve it.

yes, and how do you know Clemson didn't already know Purnell was leaving?

BecauseDePaul and Purnell hadnt yet hooked up at that point.

ETA- You made your dumbass claim onMarch 30th. Purnellwent to DePaul on April 6th.Below is an article from April 5th saying DePaul MIGHT have their coach(finally).
http://depaul.scout.com/a.z?s=430&p=2&c=959957&ssf=1&RequestedURL=http%3a%2f%2fdepaul.scout.com%2f2%2f959957.html

http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/ncb/columns/story?columnist=greenberg_jon&id=5062296And here is an article from April 7th with a quote from Purnell that says the courtship started "four or five days" ago.

So you are going to stick with the story that Clemson knew he would be leaving BEFORE DePaul contacted him, much less interviewed him, and that Clemson then also contacted Stans and offered him the job BEFORE Purnell ever interviewed or accepted the DePaul job?!?!?!?!

Damn.

He's living close to home
He's coached his entire career there
His short lived playing career was all in Indiana
He can go to the tournament every year easily at Butler. Not necessarily true at state since there's more competition (even in the west)
He can win a national championship there, hell he was inches away from one this year.

Well most of you idiots are getting exactly what you set us up for. I'm hearing that he's leaving because he's sick of "ungrateful fans calling for his head each year." And that's exactly what we have. I'm SHOCKED to read all the ppl on here now saying what a great loss this was. If I had time or the energy I would go back a few weeks and show you all what you same stupid 17ers were saying about Rick then

"BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR"

I can't wait to see how many more "candidates" you delusional idiots come up with. You really think Butlers coach is going to come to Starkville 2 weeks off of a national championship run. HA! Truly laughable indeed.

We have (had) the best possible coach that we can get, and people like about 80% of you all ran him off after the most successful run we've ever had in any sport (except maybe baseball but if behind, then not by very much).

We will hire an assistant from some big school that nobodys ever heard of, he'll suck for a few years and we will repeat the cycle for about 20 years. Wait and see. Good luck morons maybe ya'll can run off **! or Cohen too.

Coach, you and your enterouge can go out and blow each other for all I care but we will regret it dearly if Stans bolts and I hope this board reminds you of it when we go below .500 every year in the SEC and UM takes over recruiting in the state. Celebrate together He is gone. I just got off the phone with him and he got a 6 year contract so all of you kiss my ***!

Be careful what you wish for is exactly right. And yes, our dumbass fanbase deserves for this to happen. If what you heard is correct, that truly is the typical MState way. Now all of us 'sheep' can come on here and bash the new coach because if he's not better than Stansbury, then he needs to be fired. I don't want the same success. I want a MUCH better coach with a MUCH better record. Unfortunately, as all of these dumbasses on here will see, that's probably not going to happen.
