I'm hearing that Mr Motionless Offense has been contacted indirectly about the Tennessee job...and if everything that Pearl has really done is brought out in all of this and they have to boot him, they will be looking to move quickly...anybody else heard anything on this?

I must say, I'm really shocked by it

edited to add- could you imagine Phil Cunningham as our interim coach this season????

And you shouldn't be so shocked. Stans is a very good basketball coach and it's going to be a sad day for MSU when he leaves, whenever that day is.

Which part are you shocked about, that Pearl was cheating his *** off, or that they would consider Stans?

I wouldn't go so far as to say he is a VERY good basketball coach. I think he is a better coach than he gets credit for. Unfortunately, I think he is also about the best coach we can expect unless we got lucky on a young guy. Especially this close to the season if this rumor is true.

When have I ever said I wanted Cunningham to coach anything?

Tenn won't be able to risk getting rid off Pearl until the NCAA investigation is finished for risk of legal action. (See Ohio State/Jim O'Brien) When is the last time the NCAA did anything quickly? The soonest I see them canning Pearl is January.

I think if Rick wanted to leave he would have left for Clemson at the end of last year. I will say this though, if Pearl is fired then we need to keep our eye on him for on down the road. Hell if UK will hire Calipari's cheating *** then MSU should definitely hire Pearl's cheating *** if the opportunity arises.

you only need 7 players and you can sign as many as you'd like as long as only 13 are on scholly the next year.

Stansbury is about to have the facilities here he's always wanted. UT basketball will be non-existent after all the stuff that is about to come out. Stansbury is trying to get Hopson to transfer and that would be the only move from UT to MSU that will happen.

Have not heard that one. Is there anything to it, or did it originate as your fingers tapped the keys of your computer?

Disappointed but wish him well?

Bitter and angry, and probably boo him every time he plays in Starkville?

Excommunicated and never spoken of again?

Tennessee plays in front of 21,000 every home game. They are a national program. Their budget is 3x ours...

I'm not saying he's leaving just that his agent has been contacted...and Tennessee is a step up from anything we can offer whether you admit it or not- they are also a step up from Clempson as well

This would make you happy because "Ricky" as you refer to him would be gone.

I want him to be replaced with a coach that has had some success as a head coach at a mid-major or been the top asst at a major program...Cunningham would in no way be what I want

he's about the nicest guy there is, and he's been a consistent winner at MSU. Just can't boo the guy, ever. I don't think he'd leave, however, unless it was Kentucky or Louisville that would come calling. And a few of the other higher profile gigs like Carolina that could take anybody's coach.

They had barely made it to sweet 16s. The reason thompson-bowling is so big is because of Pat Summit, not any men's coach they've had the last 20 years. If UT men's goes back to being mediocre in the SEC, people will stop showing up for games. They simply don't care about basketball unless they're really good at it and have a shot at national prominence.

Made the comment the other day that the NCAA is really putting the screws to UT and that they aren't done with Pearl and the whole UT athletic department. Made it sound like it could get really bad.

So Jimmy Sexton told you this?

Sexton is a UT alum.

Can Hopson transfer and be granted immediate eligibility? Or, does he have to go steal something first and decide he wants to be a landscape architect?

Somebody clarify this for me...

I'm ready for some new blood, but you can't fire a guy with the level of consistency success that he's had. I just don't see him taking us to the next level.
On the other hand, I realize I sound like the Southern fans who wanted to fire Bower, which was obviously a huge mistake.

then would ANY SEC school really bother trying to recruit another school's coach? It seems like we hear about these rumors a lot... e.g. LSU to come after Mullen when the fire Miles, TN/KY to come after Stansbury, etc. but if it's true that Slive has already told all member institutions that he doesn't want this cannibalism happening then how do these rumors get started?
