Okay, this season has been a disaster. I will acknowledge that fact, but I will not hate on Stansbury for what he has given MSU. His time may have come and gone, but without Stansbury, we wouldn't be in the position we are in today. Stansbury has been a tireless recruiter and sold players on our University when others didn't even think it was possible. Stansbury has stayed with MSU and there has been times when he could have left for other jobs, whether some believe that or not. During the Richard Williams era, Stansbury recruited the players that allowed us the success of the Final Four. Stansbury coached a team that went undefeated on the road in the SEC. Stansbury won an outright SEC Title at MSU and two SEC Tournament Championships. Stansbury has owned the SEC West during his career. Stansbury should have stuff named after him at MSU in regards to basketball, if you look at our history. I remember when I hoped and prayed that Vandel Thomas would sign with MSU because he was a top recruit and other top recruits in Mississippi never would stay in state. Stansbury has changed the face of MSU basketball and now we expect more, which is fine. Go research our rich basketball history and you will see what Stansbury has given us.<div>
</div><div>I am disappointed with our basketball team, and I do believe it is time for a change, but I will never hate on Rick Stansbury. Every school in the SEC besides Ole Miss has the money and support to have a better basketball program than MSU. I went to the Auburn - MSU game tonight at Auburn's new $90 million dollar basketball arena and Auburn's arena is awesome. We shouldn't be able to compete in the West much less the East. It just isn't close. </div><div>With all that being said, it is time for a change. I hate it, because I love Stansbury as a person and how he has represented MSU for the 20+ years he has served our University. He is an MSU guy. I am not giving up on this year, because there is still alot of ball to be played. However, it is time for our administration to start looking at options, because we do have a basketball program that can be built upon. I credit that foundation to Rick Stansbury. I hope that if a change is made that we can keep a man of Stansbury's caliber involved in the university, because I truly believe he loves MSU.</div><div>
</div><div>Bottom line, I will always be a Rick Stansbury fan. </div>

RS is an MSU guy without a doubt. He has done some good things for the school and the program, but he has lost it. Plus, there's just too much money involved now to have the leniency that would be extended in different circumstances. If Rick were still making 400k a year, I could stomach another year. But, RS is making just above a million dollars a year in an athletic department that is stretched thin financially to support the football program. Money has created a monster. With the outrageous sums of money being thrown at coaches in the SEC, it is all about what have you done for me lately.

Money is the monster.

It is laughable to see a graph of average coaching salaries in the conference and nationally over the last decade or so.

While the talent level has increased since Stansbury has been on staff (major shift in the early 90s) it has not continued to increase. It has plateaued out and with the increasing defections, it makes the overall talent level lower than previous years.
The players are not happy and it shows in their play.

Also, the level of coaching is night/day when playing other new coaches. Auburn has been a young team, but they have been showcasing their talent recently and had a golden opportunity to pluck one from an internal-struggling MSU team.
While Dee has been playing some sick ball, his mannerism on the court is vindictive and negative. Arrogance reeks from Sidney and it is cancerous.

One thing has to be said is the officiating last night was horrible. There were several key calls that changed the direction of the game. It was blatant.

And now, MSU has to play probably the most talented team in the SEC (UK) who just lost several road games recently. Will it be blow-out?

On a forum dominated by cynicism, immaturity and petulance, your post was a refreshing reminder that there is intelligent life on this forum, albeit rare. Stansbury does deserve our thanks for what he has done. And change must come. Not sure if I am ready to say the change has to be the head coach, but something's gotta give for sure. I never want to live through another season like this one. Thanks for expressing it in such an eloquent fashion.

I personally HAVE given up on this year. Not sure if I'll even bother to watch another game unless I totally have nothing else to do. While I do think it would probably be best for the program to go ahead and make a change I also feel really bad that with all that Stans has given to MSU its come down to this. But I also feel bad that Stans, when he had a chance to upgrade his staff with Kirby leaving, chose to take a step backwards by adding a coach with absolutely no Div 1 experience. And I feel bad that Stans has decided he either doesn't have the energy or the desire anymore to take control of his team and demand that they show him some respect as well as respect the game they play. And I will also add finally feel bad that Stans has never seemed willing to change any strategies that he's used over his 13 years, for example the premature Stansbury stall, no matter how many times they fail. You would think experience would eventually make a coach wiser. But nevertheless Stans is a good guy and has given the majority of his career to MSU with some nice accomplishments and I do appreciate him for that.

A lot of people don't realize just how bad it can get (e.g., 1982 team with the "40 minutes of 4 corners-offense" that I'm convinced let to the shot clock in NCAA). I remember asking Bob Boyd how do you recruit MS players to come to MSU (versus the Louisville's of the world). His only answer was sell them on the benefits of playing close enough to momma. I don't know how he's done it, but he's gotten more talent to Starkville than anyone else in the last 45 years. That being said, it's time for a change as I think Stansbury has lost control.

Only two coaches have won an outright SEC championship in 100+ years of basketball. Babe and Stans. Williams' co-SEC title was in reality a tie for 2nd place, since Kentucky actually had the best record in the league but was on probation. Williams won the '96 SEC tournament, but was something around 1-11 in his other years. Rick has won 2 titles and played in 4 tournament championship games. He's dominated our rivals. His era has come and gone, it appears, but those who ridicule or downplay his accomplishments have very short memories.<div>

Rick has worked hard for MSU, but like many posters I think his time is up. He has never been strong at the X's and O's part of the game. He has recruited guys that he has totally lost control of. I would have more support and respect for Rick if he had sent Dee, Ravern, Renardo, and Kodi to the house a long time ago. Rick took a stance of allowing the inmates to run theprison and now he is paying for it. I am embarrassed that the most mature kids on the courtare Noah, Luke and Isaac during a timeout. We can blame it on the coach or we can blame it on the players. However, when you are in charge and making 7 figures, you shoulder the ultimate responsibility. Fair or not, the blame for this circusultimately lies on Rick Stansbury.

He needs to just come out and say what everyone else already sees.....he is burned out and needs some time away to spend with family. If he really loves MSU then surely he realizes that if his heart is not in it then his players cannot have their hearts in it.
I do not want to see Stansbury's reputation reach Polk-like levels where fans start hating his guts. There were alot of years where we were embarrassed by our footballand baseball teams the last decade. Yet we were almost always able to look forward to basketball. For that he should be commended but he needs to step aside and let someone else take us to another level.

Until he is gone. And then I will give money for a suitable recognition for what he did for our BB program.

We named the field after Polk. Stans has done equal things for MSU.

I remain hopeful for next year.He seems tired though.
