Wow, I sure do enjoy those 13 National Championships. 1941 was an important bonus point year apparently.

And the blog explains that, ‘each SEC city received a score from 1 to 14 across 10 criteria. We then took the average score across all 10 criteria. The winner, in this case the best SEC city for sports fans, was the city with the lowest average score.’

So tailgating in Oxford is ranked #1 and it is ranked #12 in Starkville. We just beat out Mizzou.

"A true sports city knows how to tailgate. This means grills, large plates of cooked meat, and some type of backyard/asphalt friendly game—probably bean bag toss (also known as cornhole). For this category, we tapped sports writer and Movoto friend Rick Limpert for help. Last year, Limpert was the “Tailgate Fan” writer for CBS Atlanta. We asked him to rank each SEC city by its tailgates. The University of Mississippi easily came in first. Close behind were LSU and Auburn University.
“Why head inside the stadium when you have the sights, sounds, and tastes of The Grove?,” Limpert said of Ole Miss. “You have to see it to believe it.”

Do they even have grills in the Grove? I thought it was a pic-nic.

ETA: I do realize they have great tailgating in Oxford. Was just laughing at the grill criteria. I guess the cooked meat can overcome it because of all the cold chicken tenders.

I've never seen tailgate games in the grove either.

I also love how we get called out for copying the grove with the Junction. Other than the fact that there are next to no trees, it's right by the stadium, everyone doesn't have to squeeze through a 6 foot wide alley to get to the game, grilling is allowed, there's plenty of room for tailgate games and tag football games, and we don't bother with bringing silver and fine china, it's exactly like the grove.

We're not the 2nd best SEC city, but we sure as hell don't have the 12th best tailgating, either. That list is a load of ****.

I don't get the math. How can we be ranked 2nd in "Football wins over rival" if OM has a better record against us? Also, how can we be ranked 1st Basketball "wins over rival" and OM is second?? How can two teams that play each other both have a lopsided lead in wins against each other? That is some 17ed up math there.

It's based on total number of wins against your primary rival, not percentage, or how big your lead is. We are 1-2 in basketball due to a massive amount of meetings.

That said, I think they probably got our football record backward, because there's no way we have more wins against our main rival (UM) than they do against theirs (us).

Also, a lot of the categories we get a boost based on a smaller population, i.e. "sports bars per capita." It's not about how "great" or "poor" the sports bars are.

These criteria are fairly dubious. I love Starkville, but we don't have any good sports bars; maybe Daves, but thats it.

Tailgating in Oxford sucks. I don't give a damn what anyone says; it's not tailgating without grills. Any man that will argue that should stick his dick in a meat grinder.

Finally, a ranking of something "per capita" where Mississippi doesn't totally get the shaft. It's about time.
I'm not going to rain on the parade and question their crazy ranking system methods.

Leave it to our fans to gripe and ***** about all of the wrongs in a publication that has us ranked #2 in the SEC in a GOOD category. Ole Miss would be hanging banners and creating billboards about this article. They would be showing this article to croots and inserting it into the 2,000,000 letters they send each croot. What do we do? Talk about how the math is wrong and how there is no way our city is that good.

you are not the 2nd best like one of your posters stated and you are definitely not 12th best tailgate. Carolina sucks and so does UF in my opinion. not to mention so does UK and Vandy. the piglets isn't that good in my opinion either.
oh, and we do have grills in The Grove. walk around instead of just coming for the game. every year yall are there, we always have about 10 state fans in our tent and we have a blast. we rag on each other...it's fun. there is no way you can honestly say The Grove sucks.
