I could be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure we try to kick it to the one yard line on kickoffs on purpose. Bell has the leg to kick it into the endzone, we just don't unless we need to situationally. I'm not saying it's necessarily the best strategy, but It sure seems like that is what we do.
Others have already covered the difference between kicking FGs off a tee and off the ground and that we don't kick kickoffs into the end zone on purpose because we can usually pin teams back further than the 25 by kicking between the goal line and the 5-yard line. I would add that I'm a lot more concerned about a kickers accuracy than his distance. Give me a kicker who can't go for more than 45 yards, but is accurate any day. I'm pretty sure Bell had a FG or 2 over 50 yards in HS too.
.If he signs with State, they'll coach him to pooch kick
Meridian High had a kicker who kicked the ball through the goal posts on kickoffs in high school. He goes to State, he becomes Croom's specialty pooch-kicker.
