I've been wondering the same thing. They had an emergency meeting last Friday and put him on immediate leave with instructions to have no contact with the PD. Seems very fishy.

Today they accepted his retirement. They said he could only clean out his desk if occupancies by the Interim Chief. It's like they don't want him near any of the files.

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – WCBI has new information surrounding the investigation involving Starkville’s police chief.
Chief David Lindley was put on paid administrative leave last week, but city leaders are still keeping tight lipped as to why.
WCBI asked one alderman if the chief’s leave is related to his wife’s recent auto accident. He said, ‘Perhaps.’
Chief Lindley told WCBI his wife, Mississippi State University Police Chief Georgia Lindley, recently brushed someone’s bumper in a church parking lot, but only left the scene because she didn’t realize she had bumped the car.
Lindley said when she realized it, she immediately filed a report and exchanged insurance information with the owner of the other vehicle.
WCBI tried to get a copy of the accident report, but the police department said the report has to be finalized before it can be released to the public.
WCBI has since filed a public records request.
Some aldermen tell WCBI they’re surprised by the investigation, saying Lindley has been a dedicated civil servant.
City leaders will hold a special called meeting related to personnel issues Tuesday afternoon. Some aldermen said they believe it’s related to the police chief.

Is he the same David Lindley who once was suspended for wearing a klan robe while on duty? I swear I'm not trying to stir anything up. Obviously, even if it was him, that wouldn't reflect on MSU at all. And he may not even be the same guy, but I'm pretty sure someone by the same name was suspended from the Starkville PD around 20 years ago for that.

I apologize in advance if that wasn't the current chief of police. I'm not saying it was him, I'm just asking if it was him.

Can't see why his wife brushing another car would get him fired. He must've done something else, like try to cover it up. And that's usually what happens when a situation is not faced head on.

Is this

lady black, by chance? If so, I remember when she was just a detective for UPD. She was a complete ***** and totally unprofessional. Again, this is all based upon it being who I think it is. Anyone got a pic of her?

I've met the guy before (inadvertently). My observations:

Ole Miss fan if I'm not mistaken (not sure and that doesn't really matter but an observation)
Seemed pretty arrogant
Starkville police department over the years haven't been very student friendly
examples: letting Level III patrons takeover main street while running Whiskey Blues and Mugshots patrons off the sidewalk and forcing them to drive or walk home then arresting same people for DUI. giving DUIs when they could be avoided (while someone is in their own driveway). public drunks. MIPs. Disorderly conducts. etc.

Don't get me wrong, I think if you are doing something wrong you deserve to pay the price, but it seems the SPD goes out of their way to catch people. I'm 31 years old now, but I moved back to Starkville at 28. After I turned 29 I was pulled over multiple times when leaving a bar b/t 1030 and 1130. Cops thought I was a student even after pulling me over. Treated me like ****. I played along and acted the part. Once it got to the point of them actually asking for my license or actually looking at my age, I'd tell them what I thought about it. Not that it meant much, but at least they'd understand I wasn't a teenager or minor who couldn't afford to pay for an attorney when wronged.

I believe police officers exist to SERVE and protect. I don't believe the SPD follows that motto.
