some people don't like tailgating in knoxville but i think it is fun. so i wouldn't mind if our downtown took on a similar feel on gameday. it would definitely increase revenues for the local businesses.

my only issue would be how long is it blocked after the game. i say this because we traditionally have had games before noon so that the blue hairs wouldn't be so cold. blocking it off for the entire day would suck in that situation.

You don't prefer asphalt and concrete over trees and grass? Wierdo.

I kind of agree that something needs to be done about people loitering because I think we are heading for a bad weekend of it.

I saw tents set up up 4x8 plots of grass in front of gas stations. I did have a fantastic time there although we received a croom style beatdown.

Are they trying to encourage people to walk from campus to downtown to get something to eat and drink before the game? That is a long *** walk when alot of people have cold beer in their cooler, a mouth watering boston butt/pork loin to eat, and a tent and comfortable chairs less than 200 yards from the gate and a few steps from some fancy portajohns.

I could possibly see them blocking off the Cotton District....perhaps from Coconuts to the bridge, and maybe encourage vendors to set up in that area or something kind of like they do for Bulldog Bash. That might make a little bit of sense...

I thought the JSU crowd was going to be kind of thin. I think they sent back alot of tickets.

It really is simple.

Don't allow loitering on the street or don't allow Level III to open (not really an option I guess).

From bar to bar with a beer and bars to sell to the street. That's how it was explained to me. I haven't a clue about level three, and I'm sure open container laws will be strictly enforced anywhere else in town..

When level III opens it tends to draw people that first only want to circle the block and show off their latest ride. Then a mass of people will just hang out outside Level III, and never step foot inside that clogs up the side walk.

I think the blocking off the street part is only designed to go after people just circling the block. I think for any real result to happen the problem of the crowds outside Level III need to be addressed, but that maybe too difficult problem to fix

and the night route can't get through. and if people are in the street, no matter black or white, it still prevents traffic from coming through.

The problem with level three has nothing to do with race. It has to do with PEOPLE sitting in the middle of the street so cars can't get by. If these said "people" would get out of the *$%%%$@ street there would not be a problem. I have a feeling I'm staying in the Cotton District on Saturday night. Something has to be done about that place because it ruins downtown when it's open.

I agree with the idea about shutting off University Dr. from the cemetery to the bridge. Nobody goes downtown before a game but at night that might be a good idea. Sucks that I live on University and it could cause a problem with parking but that just comes with choosing to live here. We know there are a few days where our vehicles have to stay parked.

this morning. Apparently, it is being discussed, but hasn't been decided. The idea apparently was to reduce crime? I'm not sure how it limits purse snatching, etc.

The word is that the city is looking to shut down Main street the nights of home football games basically between Mugshots and Cadence Bank. People would be allowed to walk around with an open container, similar to Beale Street, Bourbon, and Sixth Street (Austin). There is some pretty serious support (police, mayor, business owners) behind the idea, because the police already have to block off the street half the time anyway. There is a story on the front of the Starkville Dispatch today with more details. Dont look for it to happen next weekend for JSU, but maybe the first SEC weekend.

especially if they could put a few more bars in buildings downtown, and move the little dress shops somewhere else.

Apparently it is because of Level III and instead of making those *+@%@%+ idiots who stand in the street DRINKING out of their coolers behave they punish the rest of us.

Why doesn't the Chief of PD insist that those *+@%@%+ morons do not drink on the street, something that would get the rest of us put in jail. Why doesn't he insist that they behave............................

He waiting for a rape or serious crime?

Starkville is going to close off downtown on football weekends.

Are they going to let you walk around downtown with an open container? Because if so, that is great.

Apparently, if you have a beer, they are going to force you to walk around in the street and down it before you can buy your second one. It's total ********. It just punishes all of us that normally just walk into Level III and have 2 beers. Now I have to drink the first one in the street.
