This will be the 3rd matchup in 3 years. Any thoughts?

I think it will be a good close game. Starmount is young with 6 sophomores starting. It seems the Rams have finally found a consistent kicker the last 2 games. Two great programs clashing again!!

Hopefully we show up this year to the matchup. I think we will and I like our chances at home. Should be a great match up.

What Gal said. Starmount beat us as bad as anybody has in five or six years last year. This year should be much more competitive.

Two years ago we wore Starmount out. I heard following that game the Rams had a players only meeting and the mostly junior laden team that year, set a goal to pay the Devils back the following year. Well mission accomplished as they wore the Devils out last year in the Regional Final. This time around sounds like there are two very young teams gonna square off.

This summer I was talking to Coach Blakenship about the games between the Rams and Maroon Devils. We kind of joked about meeting for the 3rd time in 3 years...I guess we got it....lol!!

Gonna be tough for Starmount to come to Bryson and win. It's tough for anyone to come there and leave with a W. Just ask my bulldogs

Swain on a collision course with some good teams but I see them in the western finals unless someone steps up. They are built to travel well and to ultimately win. I will be really impressed, as I always am, by the team that knocks them out. That is a hard thing to do. They have for years set the standard.

not a good 2nd round for East Wilkes..... tough to beat a team twice (Rams) and SC is a proven playoff team.... Good luck to all!!

Vey tough indeed bareman. Swain has been running the offense that EW is running for years. So, they will know how to defend it. East will do well. They have such a never say die attitude this year. They will be a definite tough out for Starmount or Swain. But youre right EW will definitely have to earn it against these 2 perennial playoff mainstays!!!

I know Starmount lost a lot up front on both sides of the ball. What about skill players? I am still having nightmares of the jet sweep coming our way from last year.

This could go either way, Swain is much improved from last year and from the 1st game vs Smoky Mtn. But they are their own worst enemies, penalties, personal fouls and turnovers against good teams will cost you the football game, that's what happen last week. Swain has to play smarter football if they are going to make it anywhere in the playoffs, I believe they can beat anyone, but we have to stop helping the other teams out so much!

#23 Brandon Prescott RB/S is back. He caught the TD pass and ran for a TD in last year's game. He has around 1200 rushing yards with 17 TDs.

Like I said before Starmount is young at places but experienced. Our 3 LBs are sophomores led by #17 Gatlin Welborn with over 109 tackles. They all played last year as freshman on that playoff run we had.

Two teams seem loaded for the future. Do either run the spread? Quite frankly im sick of that offense and would love to see some old fashioned real football. I know wrhill, jk and tarboro still play that way.

I kno for a fact if the Rams win it will be close game. As for a knowing the history of this matchup, there has only been 1 close game and it was a 17-10 Rams win in Boonville in 1997. Swain has the Rams upmost respect. I remember Coach Johnson telling the team after the game last year,,."guys that's a first class bunch over there."

Griddie,

Starmount runs a wing t out of the pistol formation. They have also lined up in power sets and played 3 yards and a cloud of dust football.

Starmount has been wingT for as long as I can remember, but it looks like with the pistol the belly option is replaced with jet sweeps.

Take it to em rams!! I hope they go out there and put a whooping on Swain. It's going to be tough on the road, but I have confidence in the Rams.

If Swain plays as physical as they did against Robbinsville I pity whoever is in front of them

Must be true or very close to true .. Cause we haven't heard anything but crickets on this topic. That would change whole complexion of this game.

EWCards,
Interesting potential 2nd round game if you guys and the rams take care of business tonight. Hate playing a conference opponent in the 1st or 2nd round. Good luck to y'all tonight and to the Rams! Even though we aren't in the same conference we still pull for all our local teams.

Bummed right now but just have to come together and take on the challenge. Safe travels to the Starmount faithful. Good luck to both teams.
