Starmount @ Mount Airy 3rd Round Rematch.
I can see a closer game than the last game. Bears can not make any mistakes.
What are your thoughts on this game?

This Starmount team is much better Offensively than the one we played very early in the season. Don't know how much they have improved on Defense. They will score but hopefully MA can win the LOS again this week and our RBs can get to the 2nd level untouched. Can't beat yourself with TOs and costly penalties.

I was at Starmount yesterday midday. They were working on the field, had it looking really good. There was excitement in the air. It felt like they were ready for "the moment". And while Mt Airy was doing its thing at home against EWilkes, Starmount did what it had to do to move forward. Congratulations to them and their Coach Sandy Grifton and staff.

Starmount has looked like a different team since the Mount Airy game. The team knows this is a huge challenge in front of them. I know they will play hard for each other.

At the first of the season, I was unsure what they would accomplish, but I didn’t really think that we would be 8-4 and in the 3rd round. I thought we might be a year away.

The last two weekends it has felt like the old times on Longtown Road. GATA!!

I don't see Starmount being shut out this time after losing the first game 40-0, but I don't see them winning either. Mount Airy 47 Starmount 7 maybe 14. Starmount has won 6 games since the BEARS. Have they improved or is it there are no good teams in the conference. The best team they beat was Andrews in a nail-bitter. Mount Airy is just too much for them, I said at the beginning of the season that Mount Airy vs Starmount could become a rivalry game in a couple of years but it could be East Wilkes in the thick of things also, and if the team can jell with the coaches or get a new coach. I can possibly see Wilmoth stepping down or being let go. I think he is more fit as an assistant coach than a head coach. I hope they get their act together. It would be nice to see Mount Airy get their 10th shutout though, With 9 shutouts, does anyone know of another team that has had 9 shutouts in 12 games in any classification only 18 points scored on them, 1 gave only two field goals and 2 games scoring 1 TD and both with missed field goals. This is not bragging but posting facts that have been in the Newspaper several times. Good luck and GO BEARS 🏈 🏈 . May it be an injury-free game for both teams. The only question I have is, is it Friday yet?

Almost Deana (2nd best record over 20 games played), These two rivals have played 53 times with Mt. Airy holding a slight edge 28-25. This will be the 3rd time meeting in the playoffs. Ironically, Starmount won both of those games after losing to Mt. Airy in two close contests in the regular season.

Reidsville has played Mt. Airy 55 times and has a winning record against the Bears (24-16-5).

Eden Morehead has a winning record of 9-7-3.

I can remember those games going back to the 1970s. Never knew who was going to win was nerve-racking. Starmount always was right up there with North Surry as our toughest rivalry games and nail bitting games. This game was always a great gate for both schools and will be again if it ever stopped. I see good things coming for Starmount. Good luck but got to say I will be pulling for the BEARS and you the RAMS. East Surry back in those early 1970s & 80s was just another game we usually won.

This is the fourth time Starmount and Mount Airy have met each other again in the playoffs.

1985 - Starmount won 14-10 in regular season; Mount Airy won 10-7 in 2nd Rd
1997 - Mount Airy won 14-7 in regular season; Starmount won 24-7 in 2nd Rd
2004 - Mount Airy won 22-21 in regular season; Starmount won 23-7 in 2nd Rd

Deana, what do you think the outcome of Friday's game will be? And you can ignore with no answer being you are so close to the Rams program and a Staff member of NCPreps. It will be understood with no answer or saying you are staying natural. Can't blame you either way.

Yes. Deanna. You are correct. I didn't scroll down far enough on my spreadsheet. 4th playoff game. The record is still 28 -25. No change. Thanks!

I’ve seen Starmount play East Surry three times straight in the playoffs. One was really close, one was close until ES pulled away in 4th, and the other a blowout.

They are kids so who knows. Just proud of this bunch no matter the outcome.

I think these 2 teams have high respect for one another and will not be a lot of bragging if any either way. They have played many years in the same conference and nonconference. Been some great battles and Friday may be no different. I said at the first of the season that Starmount would probably be #2 in the NWC after I saw what Mount Airy was capable of after beating Starmount. I was in hopes Starmount would take East Surry's place as the last game of the season for Mount Airy. Man what a gate that would pull in !

Props to Coach Grinton, I really like how Starmount has turned out. Yeah I remember the first game every year was Starmount always a tough team. Also my junior and Senior year we played Eden Morehead good squad.

Coach Grifton and his staff did a really good job with game plan and preparation. All Starmount fans and administration should realize how outstanding the job they did was. If up to me, co-coach of the year awards.

It would be something to see if Starmount had the support program that Mt Airy Youth Foundation provides for Mt Airy. This is not said as a slur, just to say OMG what would Starmount have with a MAYF support organization.

Deana, my business organization provides the H&R Block Block of the Game Award given by WIFM as well as WSYD. While I enjoy delivering that award to whatever school I need to each week, I do not mind saying, I enjoy delivering to Starmount the most. Coach Grifton normally is available to receive it and get it to the player that was awarded to.
Coach G always seems to have time to talk, ask questions, share thoughts, etc. It has been a joy to get to know him and to a much less degree to know your Principal. Anything I can do to help your program or school I would be happy to help.
