I said that in a different thread...this may of been K’s last really good shot at the final four depending on landing supreme talent in future years of course..There isn’t a single player that will be left that you can see as the cornerstone of a championship team moving forward with time and development into their Junior and Senior years..

Interesting tweet from RJ Hampton as soon as the game ended.

My whole thing about next year is we don’t know... will next years team be as good talent wise as this year.. I would say no... but this team could have some solid depth and a solid core of upper class men... the big thing with college b-ball is you never know how teams will adapt and play. Today sucks absolutely and I’m not just going to push aside this season.. but pieces have yet to fall for next year. Enjoy the summer and the nice weather and know we are all Duke fans and we will be back!

Lol no but we have a lot of question marks :(

We absolutely do. But the “we’re gonna be awful” and “we may only win a couple of big games” stuff is a bit much.

Who is going to play point? How does this recruit class finish out? How much of the veteran bench does K use? Who comes back? What will this team’s identity become?

Those are the first questions that come to my mind.

I root for the team that wears Duke on the front of the Jersey. The universe does not owe anyone a 35 win season and NC. I root for Duke because of the quality of basketball played, the integrity of the program, and the quality of the student athletes. I will look forward to next year and enjoy the team period. Hopefully that means lots of wins, but if it doesn't, I will enjoy the ride anyway.

I don’t think we’re gonna be the best team next year but i don’t think we’re gonna be real bad. Probably a 2 or 3 seed. If tre leaves i see us getting either Kira Lewis or Rj Hampton(don’t know if Kira would be eligible to play right away) and i think we’ll get hurt. Just by guessing that we’ll add at least 2 more plays you would think we’d be a team with some depth so I’m really hoping i takes next year as a year to use his bench and develop some of this talent. The one and done era has been fun but i think it’s shown that you can’t win with only freshman. We need to develop our talent. We have it but they don’t get enough run. I’m not saying do away with one and dones totally. 1 or 2 a year is good but you can’t rely on them solely. Got a little off track there but my point is that next year is a perfect year to develop the bench and give everyone playing time. Not 35 minutes a piece for every starter

Much too early.Need to see how we finish recruiting

My educated guess:

Ques
Jav
Jack
Jordan
AOC
Baker
JRob
Buck
Tre (or RJ Hampton)
Carey
Moore
Ellis
Hurt
Watford

This could be deep and versatile. There’d be an ideal mix veterans that will play, and freshmen that will play.

You’d have legitimate scorers in Carey, Hurt, Watford and a junior AOC. Everyone would fill a nice niche. Tre would absolutely be a scoring option on this squad (as would Hampton).

This would be a really good squad if it comes to pass. Like really good.

Key to any squad we have is going to be rotation and playing time. It looks great on paper, but if all the minutes go to the incoming group and K just repeats the habit of the last couple of seasons of playing 6-7 players at most times..and 5 the majority...we will yet again see an uncordinated, weak defensive team that struggles against experience.. a jaded view but the last 3 seasons have all played out this way

Well you know he will. You’ll have the 5 starters and then bench will be Javin or bolden getting time, jack, and one other

I'll keep this short.

Projected starters

RJ Hampton OR Tre Jones OR Kira Lewis
Boogie Ellis (I just don't think AOC is there)
Wendell Moore
Vernon Carey
Marques Bolden

Likely order off the bench:
Hurt
Javin
AOC
Goldwire
White
Baker

We would have the potential to be quite deep, but I would still expect a short rotation. Hurt and Javin probably get the most minutes with the other guys rotating who plays based on hot hands and matchups. The other wild card is Trendon Watford. If we sign him and Hurt, the front court gets very crowded with Bolden, Jav, Carey, Hurt, and Watford.

It's not as bad as I thought yesterday. I don't think we'll be preseason top 5 with the expectations that accompanied most of our recent classes, but still a top 10-15 team. The lack of expectations on the freshmen next year may be a blessing.

If Hurt comes to Duke he isnt coming off the bench.

If Hurt comes to Duke he isnt coming off the bench.

It's possible he could start at the 4 and Carey move to 5 especially if Bolden declares. There are still a lot of spots to resolve, but I could see Hurt being first off the bench especially in games where we need a true center. If Bolden decides to leave, I could see Carey moving to 5 and Hurt starting at 4 with Javing being the sub at 5 (or Watford if we get him).

I'm already looking forward to next season.Expectations wont be so high, but perhaps that's a good thing,we have a good core of returning players who hopefully now get their chance to shine,as well as a very good incoming class.

Maybe a less talented team means we run more sets and help guys move without the ball and get people open by design.

Next year will be similar to the 2016 with Gray/Ingram. A ton of growing pains

I actually think we'll be a bit better than that team. If point guard gets sorted out either with Tre, RJ Hampton, or Kira Lewis and we get Hurt and/or Watford, we'll have a lot of talent. Vernon Carey may not be a POY candidate like we're used to with our freshmen these days, but we also hopefully won't be as reliant on just one or two players to carry the team like we have been the last 4 years.
