When I was there it was a grill of some sort on the second floor. The lower floor was a bowling alley, arcade, and the non-academic bookstore.

Yes. There was at one time. When I got there it was the State Fountain Grill or something like that. Cafeteria style burgers fries etc.
The Grill used to have once-a-week "themed" buffet nights back in '91 and '92 (freshman year). Country, Italian, Mexican, etc. . . . the Smith Hall bathrooms were truly battle tested later after our herd returned from these extravaganzas.

and, the small fries . . .

Still holding on to about 25 lbs worth of Christy's fat -- back when it was too legit to quit!

and I never want to let it go

Crazy there was a bowling alley in the union at one point. Never knew that. I was there from 2004-2008. The union was being rebuilt 1 (maybe 2 years) while I was there. Chick fil a seemed like it operating somewhere near the bakery and subway was in a trailer near the cafeteria. There was a Burger King on campus too.

Yes, I loved that Burger King, or BK Lounge as we called it. It later became a Steak n Shake.

Fun football memory from the 90s: I went into that BK after we a football game where we beat Kentucky, and there were four Kentucky fan dudes in there crying.

Fun times.

I was there from '90-'94 ... think that was just before they redid it and added the 4 places everybody's talking about (Great Wall, Subway, etc.). Don't know if there was anywhere to eat in the Union when I was there. There was the cafeteria, which was solid, and what pizza place was down there on one end of it? Mazzio's, I think? And then Gooch's was over by the laundry place if I'm remembering right. You basically had to get on 12 to get anything else.
Don't forget Mr. Cook and the B Quik right up the road from Mckee Hall.

Depending what the class load was that day back in the early 90's, lunch was usually Gooch's Deli or one of those jumbo chili cheese dogs you fixed yourself in the Union. Killing an hour between classes with the Beverly Hillbillies on the big screen in the lounge area. Oh, the good ole days.

It was just a construction zone in the mid to late 2000's when I was there. I think we had it for one of my 4 years . The only thing I remember about it were the stoop kids.

Hoo boy - had completely forgotten about the Be Sick, that one AND the one on 12. I guess there was also some kind of Union Grill that was on the main floor where all the fast food places wound up going later ... don't know that I ever ate there, and I just vaguely remember it now that others have mentioned it.

When I was on that part of campus looking to eat, I'd usually go in the cafeteria and make a salad so giant and loaded down with cheese, ham, eggs and dressing that it probably had as many calories as a Big Mac.

Never ate at Christie's while I was at State ... only time I ever ate there was after leaving a football game probably 2012 or so. My wife was pregnant at the time and wanted something to eat on the way home, so I ran in there and got both of us burgers and fries. I just remember my hands being so greasy that it was probably dangerous to drive a car at the same time. Good though.

That's correct. They put the Burger King in Gooch's Deli. Fall '06 it was Gooch's Deli and by Fall '07 Aramark took over and it became Burger King where Aramark infamously ran out of Burgers.

Christys - pre-Burkis1997 - was a mega-delicious greasy incredible mess. It was called The Burger Shack in the early 80s. Then the owner, who I think I remember was named Charles Christie named it after his daughter - Christy Christie.

Never met her but often wondered what she looked like. Her Dad was really tall man.

I would always get the double - and would be in a 'Christy's Coma' for a few hours that afternoon. I did get the triple a few times - not wise - but you gotta keep trying.

The fries were perfection and profuse. And usually fell out of the bottom of the greasy brown bag if you got it to go.

I was there from 2000-2004. Chick-fil-A opened in the spring of 02 if I remember right.

It was Wendy’s, Great Wall, Subway, and Chick-fil-A.

There sure was a Chick-fil-A during that time. I remember talking to Coach Croom as he was sitting by himself eating the Lord's chicken in the Union.

Lunch N Bowl at Bulldog Lanes midweek was pretty awesome while it lasted. They’d give you the lanes and shoes for free for a couple of games if you bought the burger and fries lunch combo. It was actually decent. The problem was you had to pass up Christy’s to go to Bulldog Lanes. I did not have much willpower in those days.
