How is it that JLove was so out of position vs. Malachi Dupre on the first touchdown in the 4th qtr the other night. I saw it again today and he was never within 5 yards of Dupre the whole play. Maybe the easiest TD State's ever given up? Completely unguarded.

The second time he was in good position but he went for the interception instead of at least breaking up the pass. Seems like Coach Townsend would be all over that and hopefully he will.

LSU should write Love and Muniz a thank you note for making the game so close at the end.

State played a great game overall but that's gonna get 'em killed down the road.

They'd have never had a chance to make either of those throws if we hadn't subbed and taken our foot off their throats up front via 3 man rush prevent...

Also, in both situations, Love was on an island. In most situations in our base defense, the free safety is coming to lay the damn wood there. And we should have Cox back 100% for aTm...

But I agree. All of our "starting" corners have been picked on at times this year. The one that's playing a ton and having a big contribution that is going unnoticed is Cleveland. He's been our most overall productive and least exposed corner up until this point while playing fewer snaps...

I haven't re-watched, but that was my thought. Where the heck were the safeties on those plays? Where were they the whole game? We are really missing the healthy version of Whitley so far.

I agree there is way too much confusion in our secondary and apparently some don't understand their responsibilities in certain coverages. Why Love would just let a guy run behind him in a PREVENT is disturbing because its sure not like he was covering anyone else. If we are trying to cover a guy (like Love was doing on the last TD) but don't make the play I can live with that but when we just let people hit 40 yard passes running free back there with nobody even trying to actually cover anyone then that is not acceptable.

I would like to know how many yards per attempt our 'prevent' D gives up. Because seems like it gets shredded (Auburn 2013, A&M 2013, LSU 2014).

the strength of our pass defense is our rush and pressure we apply. take that away with a 3 man rush and it is like shooting fish in a barrel...its like that with a lot of teams though. i hate a 3 man rush.

This. I can't stand it either. Stay with what was working the entire game.

Yes, yes, yes. I am not really knowledgeable but when the 3 man rush didn't work at first get out of it. My gosh, even amateurs like me could see disaster coming.

The good thing is, Mullen claims to have learned valuable lessons from this. We'll see.

But I agree -- we need to scrap our "prevent" all the way.

At LEAST bring 4 and halfway attempt to get to the qb. A defense is worthless playing back off receivers AND giving the qb all day to make a throw with zero pressure. But I agree... You can play conservative without making it as easy for the offense.

What coach invented the prevent defense and why on gods green earth did someone continue doing it after the first attempt.

Like the corner blitz. You would think that because it has worked 1 out of 1000, folks would eventually stop doing it. Nope.

Seriously, the prevent has never worked. Ever. It just speeds up TDs

prevent defense is the worst scheme in football. If I never see it again I will consider myself lucky.

I mean you don't wanna be dumb and get too aggressive like vandy did with om last year... Vandy brought the safeties up, Jeff Scott ran to the outside, turned the corner and was off to the races. Vandy lost on that play.

But a base 4-3-2 is prevent enough and you can get pressure up front. I just hate the fact our prevent makes it entirely too easy for an offense to get significant chunks of yards with little to no pressure.

Well, it did look like we were only playing with 9 there at the end.
