Y’all act like UK can just go poach whatever coach they want. Oats ain’t coming. Swung for the fences after cal left and settled on Pope. Yes, UK is a blue blood. But it doesn’t matter to anyone except y’all anymore. It’s a nice title to have but you ain’t the biggest name in the game anymore.

The same was said and we got Cal. We just need an AD with some balls to go do his homework and get the right fit. Pope isn’t arrogant enough for this job and lacks charisma for players to relate. We will be back and you better believe that

This has gone on to long. Bruce Pearl needs to come in mid season. I’m not exaggerating. Pope has to go. Our program can’t keep doing this on prime time games
I'm not fully out on Pope yet but I do wonder if Pearl is playing a long game here. He "retires" from Auburn suddenly. I wonder if he saw the roster construction and thought this will be the end of Pope. Maybe he was trying to make himself available for next season. Pearl is a great coach and has built winners wherever he went. He is a rule breaker but in the NIL era there are not that many rules anymore.

It would be interesting to know what the expectations were for Pope at Utah Valley and BYU ... ???
I would imagine neither situation came close to the expectations and pressure of the Kentucky job.
He can say that he knew that coming in, which of course he would say, but there truly is no way of really knowing.
His is a baptism of nuclear fire, to say the least.

I know it may sound stupid to say I feel empathy, if not sorrow, for Mark Pope and his family ... but I do. They are smothered in pressure.

All I’m gonna say is look when we hired a better football coach with a good reputation . Recruits signed early when they didn’t plan on it initially.

Collins Stokes be a nice start

Sybau. If Kentucky ever reaches out to oats, he’s the coach by the next day.

Folks, Pope is not going to step down 9 games into his 2nd season nor is Barnhart going to let him go. This is as painful as anything I have witnessed in my years (since '67-'68) following the 'Cats. We have too many complimentary players, too many that are in over the heads at this level and we have no on court leader or "star" player. Going into the season with one PG is not good coaching, Aberdeen is a solid player but he is not a PG. It is going to be a long winter on the hardwood. Maybe JQ and Mo D will give us a spark, but looking way ahead to March, getting your *** kicked in 4 of out of the first 9 games on National TV will not do the team any favors on Selection Sunday and we have IU and ST. John's coming up and open SEC play against The Tide..we are in the deep end of the lake, dead engine and taking on water..We will see what the players and the coaches are made of.
I agree. He would be a quitter if he quit right now and he is not going to quit. Who has quit are the players and it’s Pope’s well paid job to get to them. If that means sitting the team cancer(s) or kicking them off the team then he has to make the move.
Right now unfortunately Pope doesn’t seem to be doing anything well. No recruits signed, poor offense, poor defense, obviously poor team chemistry, popping off after the UL game which only caused fans to wonder what team issues are going on.

That being said, he’s not going to quit. Now if next season is the same as this year (unless he turns this year around) then he will be gone.

You want the guy that waited then bailed on his team a week before practice started so players wouldn't leave so hos son would have a team?

Anyway, Pearl said at 65 he doesn't want to meet the demands of coaching...im unsure why you guys just throw any name out there and assume they'd show right up

Pope is not this bad of a coach. Something very bad has to be going on internally. Maybe the rumors are true about Oweh and Mo, but why would that make Oweh not play hard? Especially since Mo hasn't played in three games. I'm wondering if guys aren't getting paid. I know it's a baseless theory, but it's the only thing I can think of. Even if the guys we brought in were even just as good as their previous schools we wouldn't be nearly this bad. Hopefully we find out what's happening one day.
I've seen where getting these deals pushed through NIL clearinghouse and to the athletes has been a nightmare. Don't know how many, but several SEC schools started bypassing that and paying anyway. This came from a SEC football podcast. Also remember hearing we couldn't get $600 to a volleyball player because of the set up going JMI through NIL GO

I’m not sure why it’s unreasonable to give the man a full second year to see if he can get this thing turned around. He did a helluva job
last year with what he had to put together. If he can’t turn it around and he sees he’s not the man for the job, he will do the right thing. I understand the anger about last night. I was borderline homicidal. But this talk of him stepping down immediately is dumb and would be bad for the program.
While he deserves to finish the season (it’s silly to get rid of coaches mid-season anyway), last year wasn’t good enough to earn him another year if we end up with a losing season. The only way he can save his job is if he pulls off a miracle and ends up making the NCAA tournament despite the adversity we’ve dealt with. But a losing season? We were 6th in the SEC last year, it wasn’t that good.

I suppose this doesn’t apply to the Kansas or UNCs of the world, right? Like we didn’t just see f*ing Lane Kiffin leave a good thing at Ole Miss to coach a trainwreck at LSU or PSU getting turned down by every coach in college before getting before getting Matt Campbell.

It’s not like I was expecting Hurley. But Someone like Dusty May appears to be impossible for our pathetic program, apparently.

Kentucky just spent more money on the basketball team than every football team except maybe the top 2 or 3. But I guess Kentucky is just unique in its awfulness, right? Not like we got our f*cking governor involved like LSU.

Bruce isn’t coming. Nobody wants this job especially if you run Pope out of town now.
Well they sure as hell better run pope out of town now! You think coaches think being down double digits every single game is a crazy fireable offense?

More like yea I can go to Kentucky and live up to expectations. Pope has to go man. Yes now. ASAP. Today. After the game. Before the plane lands in Lexington. Yes I’m serious.

You know why certain teams like dUKe can go through a coaching transition nearly unscathed and seemingly not skipping a beat? It’s because the previous coach didn’t set the place on fire before leaving. Pearl doesn’t have a team/players he can bring with him. That’s a major negative at this point. He would be in the same position or worse at this point.

Bruce Pearl would have better players and they would be better prepared. We would not be in the same position man.
