Good for him! Totally deserved it with that great performance against a tough Providence team. Great to see that we have a few players who have earned this award. Hopefully we see lots more recognition coming our players way!

Amazing effort, considering it was his first big east game, away and in a tough arena. And no Hines to back him up so he needed to be aggressive yet smart.

reminds me of an old Robert Cray song… “The forecast calls for Payne”.

When you play as a team and Win, the individual accolades come. Excellent job by Payne stepping up when the team needed him. And in his first ever Big East game on the Road to boot.

NEW YORK – Senior forward Stephon Payne has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday morning. Payne joins AJ Staton-McCray as the two Pirates to pick up the honor this season.

Payne dominated in Friday night's BIG EAST opener at Providence as the Pirates claimed a 72-67 victory. The Jacksonville, Fla. native scored 18 points and pulled down 16 rebounds, five of which came on the offensive glass. Payne became the first Pirate since Jared Rhoden in 2022 to finish a game with at least 15 points and 15 rebounds. Payne scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half as he propelled Seton Hall to a tough road win to open conference play.

Payne and the Pirates take the court again on Tuesday night for the BIG EAST home opener against Villanova. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. on NBCSN and Peacock.

Awesome and well earned. That was an absolutely brilliant performance by Steph.

In a game where we would have been happy if he stayed out of foul trouble with Naj out, he dominated on both ends.

Ajayi had big game vs Northwestern but was terrible against UConn with 8 points on 3 for 12 shooting.

I thought it might come from UConn or Creighton who were both 2-0 in the Big East last week. Creighton won both Big East Games by a combined 62 points but no one really had 2 strong games. Same with UConn. So Payne it is!
