If we go 3-6 against Bama, Tennessee, and Ole Miss... then yes, something isn't right. But to me, the improvement between last year and this year is night and day. This team is much, much better than last year and will continue to get better as more and more young guys get experience and contribute.

Winning two out of three would be good. South Carolina is simply better than us. I don't like it, but it is what it is.

But winning one game is not really anything to be satisfied about, it's also not anything to be upset about either.

will begin this next weekend. It is too bad that we are getting shelled today. That indicates that the pitching staff does not understand the gravity of taking 2 out of 3 from the2nd ranked team.Or.....the guys pitching today just aint worth a flip.....

Either way, the next 4 series, MSU needs to go7-5 or 8-4 simply to prove that they are better than the next 4 opponents.

I have seen many on here say that things get "easier" after this weekend for MSU. But I guarantee you that fans and coaches of those next 4 opponents are saying the exactsame thing about us when their time to play MSU comes.Alabama got swept by UF....so now they are probably thinking....thank goodness we get MSU next.
UT is probably thinking....wow....can we just get to that MSU series here in Knoxville already. And Umiss is about to have 2 straight series against what we have been facing in theearly to mid-season, so you know, they will be hoping for that MSU home series to get here as soon as possible.

Improvement?...Well that is easy... We only won 6 SEC games last year and have already won 7 with 12 to go. A blind umpire could see we have improved. But what is satisfactory improvement? Will a 11-19 SEC record, with likely missing both tourneys be enough?

I will not call it marked improvement unless MSU takes at least 3 of the last 4 series and is in every game with a chance to take all 4 series. To go 8-4 they will essentially have to win all 4 series, and 7-5 means they will have to take at least 3. That will be difficult even with the weaker schedule as I just don't see a pitcher on our staff that wants the Friday game.

I will say 31-25 overall, 12-18 SEC and hopeI am wrong because they do better. That would be 5-7 without a rainout the rest of the way.

8-4 isn't out of the question against Bama, Tenn, UM, or LSU<div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre">

..I think pretty much everybody who posts here was expecting, at best, to win 1 out of 3 from USC.

MSU simply does not have the pitching to hold a team like USC down for more than 1 game out of 3.

The good part is MSU is now entering the part of the schedule where expectations can realistically be raised.

allowing him to continue to meltdown. Ogden continuing to allow balls to go through him. Just flat out frustration! Outside of that, I do think we have a chance for 8-4 down the stretch.

...I've just accepted the fact there is literally nothing Ogden can do that will force Cohen to sit him for even one game.

So just hope & pray that as MSU moves down the stretch, MSU is not tied with anybody heading into the 8th.

Because by now every scouting report in the league has it in bold type that if you have a right handed batter coming to the plate vs. MSU in a tight ball game late, you tell said right handed hitter to smash the ball directly @ Ogden.

good range, maybe better then Ogden, but has no bat. Frazier is a good defensive 2nd baseman, but has little bat syndrome too, so you could not switch Ogden to second to free up Henderson for ss. You give a little offense if you sit Ogden too. We just don't have the talent yet to compete for the division much less an SEC title. We are improving.

5-7 over the last 4, 6-6, 7-5, 8-4? Where should MSU be on May 23?

I'm just glad we didn't get swept. We're just not good enough to compete head-to-head with the top teams in college baseball, but we are getting better. We're 3-6 against top-5 teams. In most of the last 8 years, we would have been 1-8 at best.

just isn't quite ready yet. Ogden has been hitting fairly well relative to the rest of our team- and certainly better than Henderson would.

Henderson might play better defensively, but not enough to warrant taking Ogden's bat out of the lineup- or anyone else's bat for that matter.
