If we go 3-6 against Bama, Tennessee, and Ole Miss... then yes, something isn't right. But to me, the improvement between last year and this year is night and day. This team is much, much better than last year and will continue to get better as more and more young guys get experience and contribute.
will begin this next weekend. It is too bad that we are getting shelled today. That indicates that the pitching staff does not understand the gravity of taking 2 out of 3 from the2nd ranked team.Or.....the guys pitching today just aint worth a flip.....
Either way, the next 4 series, MSU needs to go7-5 or 8-4 simply to prove that they are better than the next 4 opponents.
I have seen many on here say that things get "easier" after this weekend for MSU. But I guarantee you that fans and coaches of those next 4 opponents are saying the exactsame thing about us when their time to play MSU comes.Alabama got swept by UF....so now they are probably thinking....thank goodness we get MSU next.
UT is probably thinking....wow....can we just get to that MSU series here in Knoxville already. And Umiss is about to have 2 straight series against what we have been facing in theearly to mid-season, so you know, they will be hoping for that MSU home series to get here as soon as possible.
Improvement?...Well that is easy... We only won 6 SEC games last year and have already won 7 with 12 to go. A blind umpire could see we have improved. But what is satisfactory improvement? Will a 11-19 SEC record, with likely missing both tourneys be enough?
I will not call it marked improvement unless MSU takes at least 3 of the last 4 series and is in every game with a chance to take all 4 series. To go 8-4 they will essentially have to win all 4 series, and 7-5 means they will have to take at least 3. That will be difficult even with the weaker schedule as I just don't see a pitcher on our staff that wants the Friday game.
I will say 31-25 overall, 12-18 SEC and hopeI am wrong because they do better. That would be 5-7 without a rainout the rest of the way.
