Since the moderators are allowing some discussion other than sports related, how about some advice about casino hotels on the coast? I usually stay at the IP but it is quite expensive this year (surprisingly so because of the oil).

Any recommendations other than the Beau?

Thanks!

Stay at the Hampton Inn out on theInterstate and drive in - park in the free parking garage and use the Casino free of charge (Well not quite free).

Spend $10,000 at the blackjack table and they will comp you a room free.

If so, call any of them and ask for a poker room rate (where you play 5 hours and get big discounts). Some casinos track your hours, others do not. I just went to the Goldstrike in Tunica with the poker room rate and didn't play a minute of poker (played craps instead) and did not have any problem. But, usually if you play a few hours a day you'll be fine.

As for which casino to stay: Beau is obviously the nicest and you will probably have the hardest time getting a good deal with this one. Last time I came down, I stayed at the Isle of Capri with the poker room rate and received buy-one-get-one-free room of $79 a night. So basically, I was paying 40 bucks a night. Also, there is a cheap little hotel accross the street from the Beau (I want to say it's a Days Inn), which is cheaper than the Beau, but obviously you lose out on the nice hotel room and access to the pool area. IP is good too. Just do you homework and call some of these places. The money you save asking about comps will be worth it, particularly if you play poker.

IP has become the best place to hang out at, taking over from Hard Rock. That may have driven the price up. Their poker room is also much better than Hard Rock, and a little better than the Beau. A lot easier to win money there.

The good casinos all have free valet too (you are expected to tip), but it's worth it on weekends as the garage is usually pretty full.

...but I wouldn't call it/or any of the casino's a true seafood buffett. But, it does have crab legs (snow crab and sometimes other kinds), oysters, shrimp, fish, etc. along with typical southern food and an excellent dessert section.

I haven't had Boomtown's but I know that they advertise having a large variety of crab legs.

Isle of Capri is not that good, but like the others, does have snow crab legs. IP is solid, somewhere between Beau and Isle of Capri.

Haven't had any of the others.

Thanks for the input. I used to stay at the Isle, but it has become sort of rundown of late. I guess I will stick with the IP since I have never had a bad experience there.

The "poker" rate input was interesting. I am not a poker player. My wife likes the slots and I like video poker, but we stay at the casinos mostly because they are nicer hotels with better amenities (spas, pools, restaurants) than the chain motels and we just use them as a base for visiting friends and families a couple times a year.

If you ever need Colorado advice - summer or winter, hunting or skiing - let me know.
