but heard from two unconnected folks this morning it was in the works. Still think it's BS though.

Considering Mullen was talking him up in Hattiesburg yesterday, I doubt its legit. I may be proved wrong, but I don't think so

moved to Iowa State and started recruiting with Rhoads. Stranger things have happened.

I keep thinking that Kiffin needs to get somebody besides his 1,000 year-old daddy who can actually coach.

So if I start a thread saying Nutt is coming in to be the OC at MSU and Coach34 and Dawgstudent both said they heard the same thing would that make it legit?

I am not saying it is or isnt true, but using a thread on a message board as a legit source for a rumor doesnt make much sense. He could be announced today though, so who knows

but it's not difficult to distinguish when people are actually talking about something legit and when people are making things up. It doesn't benefit UT to talk about this if there really isn't anything going on. But again...stuff happens. I kind of hope he stays at MSU. UT could become a terror to recruit against all over the southeast.

Im sure there is nothing to it, but UT is buying a lot of teams best recruiters.

They just hired Lance Thompson away from Bama, so it is not crazy to think they may go after Wilson.

Rocker turned down AU once, and then he they made him an offer he couldn't pass up.

and last I heard, he had decided to stay at MSU. I also thought UT had enough coaches, but that may be wrong. I guess throw enough money around and people change their minds, but I haven't heard anything about this in over a week.

I've been saying the same thing, especially considering that I think Monte will only be around 2 years or so at UT max. However, I was told on this board that Kiffin was putting together a killer staff, even though he's targeted almost solely guys based on recruiting ability and not coaching ability. It's fine to go out and get 3 or 4 top recruiters, but you better find some guys that actually know how to coach a position or two.

If I'm wrong I'll eat my crow, but I just see a lot of similarities in his strategy and Orgeron's assistant coach hiring strategy at Ole Miss. We ended up with some talented players, but they were severely lacking in knowing the basics of actual football technique, etc.

Granted O was a horrible head coach, but was he that bad as a D-line coach at USC? Hasn't Frank Wilson produced Damien Fletcher? Haven't Alabama's linebackers been pretty solid lately?

Maybe Im missing something but I kind of get the feeling people are just saying that these guys cant coach, just because they are very good recruiters as well. Is it not possible that they could be good recruiters and good position coaches, in which case we are all !+$+%+?

Wilson has only been at USM for one year and Fletcher has been damn good ever since he stepped for in Hattiesburg as a freshman,

It's possible to be good at both, sure. It just seems that Kiffin's approach to hiring assistants has been recruiting-centric (if you'll allow me to make up a word), which leads me to believe that he's not all that focused on getting guys known for being great position coaches.
