I also think this is the least tallented teams Stein will ha e at UK.
If the success continues, yeah, you are so right. Winning attracts talent.

BTW, I live in Pennsylvania and am watching the Penn St debacle. It is going to be a looooong year for the PSU fans if they don't turn this around with an unbelievably easy schedule. I say that to say I am so glad we got Stein and not the PSU coach.

He did, but after Levi’s and Cohen left he got lazy and replaced them with terrible players and coaches. The one year we had a real QB and OC we won 10 games and almost played for big time bowl. Stoops held the offense back and the last 4 years or so he was checked out. He should have left on his own accord after the T A&M debacle. It wasn’t good for either party after that. Another example that Mitch should have been ousted a decade + ago.
He’s definitely better coach than mark pope

I agree. It was 100% time for change and it was clear he was being heavily overcompensated for the results he was achieving. But when it was all said and done, I have a positive outlook on his time at UK. Especially with ending the UT and UF streaks and the two 10 win seasons. I just wish fans would cheer Stein without having to crap on Stoops.

I don’t dislike stoops. He was just here 5 years too long and had a ridiculous contract (sounds like Cal). But, I did get annoyed when posters acted like nobody else could have success here if we fired Stoops. Clearly that was wrong.

People act like Stoops didn't pull us out of the gutter and give us some of the best wins in school history.
He did ok overall. Two 10 win seasons was impressive. But it didn't take Bear Byrant to look good following Joker's 2 win seasons either.

I hope Stein does great here, but it is funny seeing UK fans putting him on a pedestal after beating a cupcake, an over ranked A&M, then struggling to beat another cupcake, struggling to beat a dumpster fire unranked SEC team and getting boat raced by another SEC team.
Hard to say if Stein is the real deal only a few games in, so yeah we should pump the brakes a bit. Pope looked pretty good his first season as well. But let's be honest, Stoops would have lost all 3 SEC games more than likely. ANY SEC road win as a clear underdog is impressive. Btw, Bama is boat racing a lot of teams.

Well, it wasn’t like he just looked good compared to Joker. Instead he looked good compared to virtually EVERY SINGLE UK COACH that has ever been except for Bear Bryant.

Another reminder that this a program that has only four 10 win seasons (and only two that weren’t vacated by the NCAA) in its entire 135 year history …and Stoops gave us HALF of those.

I agree that it was time for him to go, but let’s not pretend he didn’t give us some damn good times. Indeed, compared to our historical average, nearly the best times we’ve ever had.

Stoops set the standard by which he was fired. You have to go back to Cursi to find records like Stoops provided. He failed after NIL to meet the standard HE set for the program. He is gone. Hopefully we take a step upward. Stoops should be respected. The narcissist OP baited this thread into existence.

And Curci only did it for one season ….and that one season got vacated by the NCAA. He had a losing overall record at UK. So Stoops beats him too.

I can understand why some younger fans with no historical perspective might think the Stoops era stunk …because their frame of comparison is likely to other SEC schools in the same period. But those of us who’ve been watching for a half-century see it a bit differently. The Stoops era at its peak was just about the best version of UK football we’ve seen in all that time.

I agree with that. I look back on his tenure with a lot of fondness. Just a little disappointment with how it ended and what we could have done with a competent offense under him.

Stoop's biggest knock is he couldn't get over the hump and beat the higher tier teams. He could beat down teams. The down Florida's. The overrated whoever like a&m. He was south carolinas daddy most of his tenture. he could play the number one team like Georgia within three points. He just couldn't beat those upper teams.

Currently the only big boy team Stein has played has been Alabama and that was a 28 point loss (at hime). Thats 4 whole touchdowns.

I'm Not diminishing his wins or saying im not extremely excited like everyone else. But the whole country is saying how overrated Texas aM is. The entire board is saying it.

Stein has a big boy game this weekend. Let's see what he does. Lets stop the Stoops hate also. Go Cats.
Alabama is thumping everyone
