There’s a local store I like that has clean restrooms, sells gas, and serves fresh brisket sandwiches. I like to go there and get a couple then go to Kroger and dip the sandwiches in their potato salad selections. I purchase the 2-3 that taste the best
I can tolerate store-bought in a pinch, but that's not the discussion.

Amish style from Walmart is just fine. I'm single and not putting in an ounce of effort to make potato salad in the extremely rare instances I actually want any.

Not all instant mash is created equal. The Idahoan garlic mashed potatoes do just fine for a weeknight. But PooPop is our resident potato expert, I’ll let him provide the definitive answer.
What's wrong with mashed potatoes in a box? I cannot tell the difference between real and flake potatoes. For the amount of trouble I'll go with box every time. They also have a longer shelf life so you always have them. They sit right next to the instant rice box.

My daughter (no pics, UA) is a tater snob. She can tell the difference in ho-made and box mash. She won't eat boxed, we've tried a number of times on a busy weeknight.
Good lord, given his takes on Bucee's brisket, I can't imagine what the take on boxed mashed potatoes will be but bet it won't be pretty.
LOL, walked right into that one. I can go with him on the rice but boxed MP's is a bridge too far. Haven't tried them in years so they may have been improved but the experience of my youth scarred me for life.
Wonder if he has a jar of freeze dried coffee in the line up as well?
In all honesty, my wife can make some mean MP's but we almost always just nuke up some Bob Evans/Kroger.
Something to try the next time the wife makes mashed potatoes… drop a block of cream cheese in it. Yes. I said it. Cream Cheese. Thank me later.
Been doing my own study of various potato salads over the last few days and have decided that the mayo based one with sliced potatoes from Peppers Deli here in Columbus is my favorite. Much better than the mustard style from Kroger. To each his own though.
