If iowa wins the toss and defers, we should elect to kick . Their defense is more of a threat to score than their offense.
If we win the toss, we defer the option to the second half. Even then electing to kick could be the decision depending on how the game is flowing

I think these days the strategy is ALWAYS put your defense on the field first if you win the toss. Except in overtime. College you will want the ball last, pros you want the ball FIRST.

Right …so if you win the toss , you defer and then the other team always elects to receive the ball.
But if we lose the toss and iowa defers . I am saying we elect to kick - this strategy is hardly used

Plum - I'll give you credit for outside the box thinking. And it's a reasonable point given how bad their offense has been. But I can't get on board with giving their offense the ball to start both halves. Time of possession is also important and they are capable of wearing us down.

So we would kickoff both halves? I don’t think so
