yep several former players have confirmed (dan morgan, derrick crudup, and others). AD Holcutt told Gruden to sign this AM or they had to move on, still not technically signed but he supposedly has committed and they are working out last details. Whew...Mullen still a dog. Can't see a better job opening up for him unless Michigan fires RichRod (but I think they will give him one more year).

1. Gruden is expected to be named coach in front of players at 3pm thursday. The academic rumor is cover up due to Kirby trying EVERYTHING he can so the players are informed before the national media. He felt awful the way the Shannon thing broke and promised the players that would not happen again.
2. Apparently Gruden was given between 5.1 and 5.7 million for coaching staff. Apparently he is demanding 350-450k a year for bro JAY. He is also expected to keep a few coaches. Aubrey Hill for the sole purpose of recruiting. Barrow and Petri. Also some speculation Mcgriff will be retained but some disagree.
3. Leavitt is in fact leading candidate for DC.
4. a MEET N GREET luncheon has been set up for friday between UM officials and Gruden. Its is HIGHLY unlikely this would happen unless they are pretty much positive it a wrap.

Honestly, the idea of Mullen leaving for Miami does not appeal to me at all.
The reason why is because I think you would go out and get Gus Malzahn, and I think he'd take the job. While Malzahn wouldn't run his mouth like Mullen, I think he's a better offensive mind than Mullen. If you could land Malzahn, and he could find a decent DC and a few guys that recruit the area, which I'm sure he would, then you'd be in better shape in my opinion.
That's the thing, you appear to have someone in power with your athletic department that gets it, so you probably wouldn't do too bad with a replacement hire.
On the flip side, at Ole Miss, while many of us think we can do better than Nutt, most of us are scared at the thought of him being fired, because it would mean Pete Boone would be making a decision to affect the next 3-4 years of our football program. Until Boone is gone and replaced with someone that has a clue about college athletics, I personally won't feel comfortable with us performing a coaching search.
The one saving grace Boone does have is that I think he realizes he has zero ability when it comes to picking coaching candidates, so he would hire a search firm and let the search firm tell him what to do. That's the only thing that would make me feel somewhat alright with the idea of him making a coaching hire for us.

I agree that Malzahn is a good offensive mind, but better than Mullen- probably not. Malzahn has had a little more to work withand how many QBs has he developed? I just think the jury will be out on that one.RebelBruiser said:

Even if Malzahn is a better offensive mind,that doesn't mean he'd be a better head coach. People often make the mistake of thinking GreatCoordinator = Great Head Coach. They're two very different jobs. Being goodat one doesn't make you good at the other, necessarily.Hector said:

Take away this year. Auburn was 16th in the nation last year in offense with Chris Todd and Kodi Burns at QB, similar personnel to the offense that finished outside the Top 100 the previous year.
Mullen's offense at MSU has yet to take off. I know he has personnel issues too, but you didn't win because Mullen had a great offense. You won because you took care of the football and played good defense. You were 10th in the SEC in scoring this year, which isn't as bad as it sounds, but it was still 72 points shy of finishing in the top half of the league.
