If, by some chance, they do decide to change the rule to take away the TD, I guarantee the rule will only last one year before it gets shot down, much like a lot of the clock rule changes.
Also, if they treat it as a live ball foul, do they penalize from the end zone backing you up to the 15, or do they penalize from the original line of scrimmage? Reason I ask that is, what happens in a situation like Anthony Johnson's INT return against Bama in 2007 if he had gotten a celebration penalty on the play? Hypothetically, where would you bring the ball back out to?
Or, on Mike Wallace's TD catch right before halftime in the Egg Bowl. It was a 77 yard TD catch with a celebration penalty. Do they bring it out to the 15, or would they penalize us starting from our own 23?
I can see a number of ways where this would be an awful rule idea. When they changed the rule so that you could choose to take the penalty on the try or on the kickoff, I think that is good enough. Having to kick off from the 15 yardline is punishment enough.
