College friend texted me this morn w/the comment:

Since the Rams have/will fire their entire staff, lets lure Sylvester Croom back to MSU to help w/recruiting and perhaps coach offensive backs.

My answer: LOL

But thinking about it, it has (slight) merit for at least consideration

What say the board?

and I don't think he'd do it anyway. I don't think an ex-head coach would want to return to a job from which he was fired. Plus, I'm not sure he was that great a recruiter.<div>

But I can see why he thought that. He was very good with the mothers, he does have a good history of coaching backs. While it worked for Rockey, though, I just don't see how it could work. Croom is hated by waaaaay too many people.

No. While I can appreciate some things he did while here, he needs to find a new profession. I don't want him around our players. His actions with Anthony Dixon were absurd.

No, his recruiting was not good as a head coach. Why would it be any better now? Also, it is very refreshing to have a coach not praising Alabama every chance he gets. I love what Jackie did for the program, but between him and Croom I'm sick of trying to be lil Bama. When we went into the coaching search that landed Mullen, one thing I wanted us to stay away from was anyone associated with Bama, or played/coached under Bear Bryant. 17 Bama, and 17Bear Bryant.

you'll always be an NFL coach, no matter how bad you might be at it (prime example being Croom's Ram co-worker Josh freakin' McDaniels). They'll both be on NFL staffs next fall.
