How does making a state run impact incoming numbers and talent level. How will the incoming freshman look at Naz, Montini, Loyola, Marist.

I think it makes a huge difference.
The kids, and the parents want to go to the winning programs.
Not too many kids, or parents, with high expectations for the kid want to go to a 2-7 team.

You can't let the inmates run the asylum. Something I would caution Naz folks to tread lightly on; football team having different rules than the entire student body.
Good thing that doesn't happen at Naz. Everyone's behavior and grades are treated equal as Naz seen throughout the playoffs.

But yet we still say there is no advantages to have an open boundary.... lol

So old dogs can learn new tricks. If this is true (and I believe it is), good on Naz.

Everyone has same haircut standards??
Yes unless it is cultural or religious. This has been the case at Naz for 20 years. They have let turbans, uncut hair etc, for all students in those special circumstances.

PSSP,

If your worried about haircuts you might want to look a little bit deeper at home first. As for Naz a starter sat on Saturday because of grades. His name was not on the starters list nor will it be discussed here. Suffice to say the inmates are running nothing.

No worries by me, can't say that for everyone.

Not much will change for Marist since they'll still have to compete against rice, Rita, mt Carmel and providence

does this mean questionable behavior can potentially inhibit the luxury of playing the greatest game on the planet?

If Naz promotes this level of discipline God Bless them!! I wish every school could say as much!!

Nazareth first and foremost is a school run by nuns. Discipline so serious Foucault nods his bald head.

Didn't help Driscoll all that much.
Actually, it helped keep them open for years. Then the grammar school feeder programs started to close, enrolment dropped and the archdioceses made the decision. But, I'm sure you knew all that. Or not.

Oh heavens no. Beard combover.

That's better. Is it Stanley Cup time?

How do the football helmets today fit with all the big hair? Increase in concussions? The Chicago Bears center has the oversized beard - How does the chinstrap fit properly. But I think todays players rather be cool than safe.

Driscoll was not in the Archdiocese, and so it had nothing to do with the decision to close Driscoll. Driscoll was in the Diocese of Joliet...which also did not decide to close Driscoll. Driscoll was closed by its owners, the Christian Brothers. Obviously, you didn't know any of that.

regardless of why Driscoll closed, I still think we should all be grateful we have institutions that require students to adhere to a code of conduct and scholastic achievement before they take the field. Regardless of who they are.

Thank you to the nuns at Naz for setting a standard that obviously MANY of our schools should follow.

Some would think the latter should prevail

I had one school offer one of my former students (terrible athlete) who received a perfect score on the entrance exam about 3k off of his tuition. Something that I believe would get you in for free at a handful of other Catholic high schools in the area. That same school made a financial package for an athlete I had in that very same class with a lower score and similar family background get 5k off.

MC140,

Can I have a list of said schools I need to transfer my boys, the elder high 20s ACT and pretty good receiver and the younger mid 30's ACT and a decent MLB. I know what tuition I'm paying and my current earning situation and I get nothing like you describe. Please give everyone the secret list of schools.

PRokie,

The people on this site are generally pretty generous. I understand that a few of the Park Ridge parents such as yourself might have an issue with the Patriots, and that's fine...I never let it get in my way of routing for Park Ridge at nationals over the years and won't let your ignorance cloud my thoughts of the majority of the fine people in that program.

With that said campaigning to have the thread removed with your posting of inaccurate information was childish. Trying to paint with a large brush that kids from Maywood, Bellwood, Aurora, Bloomington, Chicago, and more are not deserving help was silly. We continue to try to raise money for the families in a tight spot and appreciate all the folks that helped.

Be careful MC... This guy might ask you for money too!

Pick your places to beg for money... I've rooted for the silver helmets my own fair share..
My bigger issue is with the whole Florida BS at all.. So while your put off at my questioning the legitimacy of the effort.. I have a bigger question of who supports the crap in Florida at all!!! UYFL is a joke!
National Championships are not decided by 4 fat guys in a tent at a round robin in a field with no bleachers and they sure as hell aren't celebrated with Chinese resin trophies..

But that's just me.

LA definitely has benefited from the recent success and will continue to do so. Every year there are a few more kids interested in coming from outlying areas or schools that the admissions office has little to no relationship with. However, the most significant impact on LA's talent pool is simply the sheer number of Catholic families in the area that only consider LA or their local public school. The success of the athletic programs definitely makes those decisions easier when the willingness to sacrifice financially for their child to have a Catholic education is already there. Like every year though, the so-called "highly recruited" kids will still choose to go elsewhere or not get accepted.

Hey dumbass,

It's not UYFL its Pop Warner. You are completely missing the point and misrepresented my request and the legitimacy of the organization. I let it go and then you resurface with it tonight. You must me so proud of yourself to go after 8th grade kids and diminish their accomplishments.

I applaud the kids and their accomplishments!! God bless the kids!! And you spent how many years in uyfl?
It's the egos and agenda of the DUMBASS parents I question! To stoop to beg for money here tops it all Mr I'm paying enough already!

Owned! LOL! Good one MC. And it was the Christian Brothers. But regardless of who made the decision, the driving factor was the continued enrollment decline in the area catholic grammar schools that doomed Driscoll. Back to the point though. Of course winning championships or any other positive publicity helps to draw students. It would be foolish to think otherwise.

I'm just going to leave it at you aren't aware of all the moving parts here. Driscoll was a mess. The football program ran wild, with little to no oversight. The teachers were paid terribly and not given raises while the football team got lights and direct donations to the football program. The school looked terrible, the staff was disenfranchised and no one stepped in to stop the madness.

You can blame lack of enrollment on the closing of Catholic grade schools all you like, but you and I both know that's garbage. But keep believing what you want, glamorizing the demise of Driscoll based on a lack of Catholicism in the greater Addison area. Comedy gold.

I noticed the boys to girls ratio at DC also started to dramatically change before they closed the school. The boys to girls ratio dramatically went up.

I don't think it had anything to do with it closing but just wanted to bring up that fact.

PR,

Are you happy or not happy that the park ridge falcons are under a new president and no longer guided by the big guy who ran them for years?

To answer your question...

Three years in UYFL. not by choice. As you know the league and leadership you speak of moved the Chicagoland conference. The program was very happy in the American Youth Football National affiliation. Our leadership was already gone in October of 2014 from UYFL and back at AYF and now Pop Warner as well.

It's sounds like you had issues with Mr Dihu that never were resolved.

I'm not begging, If one doesn't want to give that's fine, but some folks actually enjoy helping others.

I applaud the kids and their accomplishments!! God bless the kids!! And you spent how many years in uyfl?
