1. I hope we have sorted some things out defensively- just as we all do. But the bottom line in stopping what NW does is your DL. If Cherry is still getting a majority of the snaps- then our D is in trouble. I have not heard if Quay, James, or Jones got their **** together and had a good bowl practice- so no idea what's the rotation is going to be Tuesday.

2. I've been critical of the offense with good reason. It disappeared in big games and 3rd down conversions have been abysmal. However, in the grand scheme of things, you have to credit Mullen and crew somewhat for the transition from being a run heavy offense to a pass first offense. We didnt stink up the place like Cheezik and his crew did switching from the Spread this season. We made some big adjustments offensively in our transition and while not setting the world on fire- we werent awful. Hopefully this extra time has given the staff some time to add a couple of things to help the run game advance and take the pressure off Tyler.

3. So long Melvin, it was past time for you to go. I thank you for all the years of quality service and dedication to the program, but not the way you just coasted these last couple. Good luck on the plains before you come home to retire.

4. Anybody that doesnt think Smoot could be a quality DB coach is just very uninformed. This guy was a very good player at the position in both college and the pros. He has been working some camps for us- which is basically an audition for a job. Mullen has actually been able to witness what Fred would bring to the table as a coach in person. You hardly get that luxury with your other applicants unless you have worked with them somewhere else. As far as some of the things he did as a player in the NFL- who gives a 17? He was a man in his 20's, making really good money, and had a job that makes women want to 17 you- what would you do in the same spot? And dont lie to yourself, most of you would have done most of the same **** he did. Smoot is not in his 20's anymore, he is a grown *** man. He has a skill set that would fill a job opening we have very well, and he actually has a love for our school. As far as recruiting, Fred is Melvin x 2. Fred is salesman, a showman. That's what you need on the recruiting trail- someone that makes people believe in you, in what your selling them. Fred has IT. I hope that he and Mullen work it out and we hire Smoot.

5. Kalio flipped. We lost this recruiting battle. I personally, am glad.I think it's a wasted scholarship for a player that does not like contact. He has tons of speed and is a talented player- he is a 4-star talent. I dont think he has a 4-star heart for playing football. Time will tell on this one, but losing this battle to them is no more than fluff.

6. Chris Jones is not going to go to The Ole Miss Rebels. I'll be surprised if he even visits. Dont let the Rebel spin machine get under your skin. Even though Yancy was dead wrong on why Hill flipped to Bama, that won't stop him and their crew. They'll still be throwing those "curveballs".

7. If you don't think that recruiting is orchestrated, the Hill- Kalio Moore saga should convince you. Yancy announces a Christmas present coming for the Rebels- they knew Kalio was flipping and were going to do it on Christmas for everybody to celebrate. Only problem was that Hill flipped on them and had already signed his paperwork with Bama and that news broke on them. So they told Kalio to hold off until the next day so he can make a splash and be the headliner for the day. It's all a carefully orchestrated and calculated game. And they are better than we are at it right now- no doubt. We have got to get better at it.

8. Bracky Brett needs to retire for the good of our athletic programs. That is all

9. I am so thankful for the Rebel invasion on this board again. They had the best 6-6 season EVAHHHHH- only giving up 39 PPG in their 6 losses. I cant wait to hear again about how they played Bama so well- only down 27-7 at half and amassing just over 200 yards of total offense for the game. They did beat us and it was a good win for them- hell, they stormed the field because they beat us finally. Let's remember going forward that both State and OM are 6-1 at home the last 14 years of Egg Bowls. And both road wins were against home teams with awful records.

8 wins > 6 wins
Gator Bowl > Compass/PoppaJohn's Bowl
They won the Egg- we had the better season.

10. Looking at our depth chart for next season, it's hard to not be excited about our team:

QB: Russell, Dak
RB: Perk, Robinson, Milton, Griffin (hopefully he gets healthy)
WR: R. Johnson, Morrow
WR: Tubby, Holloway, Ricco
WR: Smith, Fred Brown, Chappelle
TE: Johnson, Hill
LT: Clausell, Muniz, Knox
LG: Jackson, Desper
C: Day, Holley, Desper
RG: Smith, Malone
RT: Siddoway, Robinson, Senior

DE: Autry, Dale
DE: Brown, Jones, Smith/Harris/Jefferson
DT: Quay, PJ, Eulls
DT: James, Virges,
OLB: Wells, Beniquez,
MLB: McKinney, Bohanna
OLB: Skinner, Richie Brown
CB: Jiles, Calhoun
CB: Redmond/Love, Grindle
SS: Whitley, Arrington, Quadry
FS: Cox, Hughes

Thats a pretty good 2-deep and lots of reason to be excited.

Let's hope we play well in the bowl game and get our 3rd straight bowl win in 3 years- and 9 wins for the 2nd time in 3 seasons. Lots and Lots and Lots of reasons to be excited about Miss State football right now.

In Mullen We Trust,

C34

Would you care to comment on Dallas vs. Washington?

I'm pulling for the boys but that environment is going to be off the Richter scale.

I was told a couple of years ago that we had a highly rated receiver out of Texas that wanted an offer from us badly and that Melvin drug his feet so much while recruiting him that he committed to another school. I can't remember the kid's name though.

While I don't necessarily disagree with the others, #5-9 are spot on.

K.M. is more focused on track, it seems. Unless, The Right Reverend Doctor Freeze has a Come to Freezus experience with him. "Tears Shed over Divine Visions of Being the Next Dexter McCluster."

yes- that happened. I could throw out some other Melvin stories, but no need. He did a good job for us over the years and needed to retire or move on. Good luck to him at Auburn

Good points.

On #2, Quay and Nick are killing it in practice. NJ is FINALLY in shape and dominant. On the same token, I haven't heard anything on whether or not they got their **** together off the field. And no, I haven't heard if they are unruly, I have just heard that they they need to "earn" more PT. People need to understand this is a decision based on the long term. Mullen is more than likely going to be in Starkville longer than these players. Yes, our D sucked at times, but Quay and NJ getting more reps would probably have not turned those loses into wins.

On #4, I've seen it with my own eyes. Smoot is a great teacher and knows the game. He loves the game. And most importantly, loves teaching the game. I've seen him at the camps. Seeing him work with recruits and our players is humbling. He's not just barking out commands. He gets out there and actually shows proper technique. He works up a bigger sweat than the players. He's like that from the start of practice, to the end. I'm not saying he's the next Bill Walsh, but he could certainly inject some more enthusiasm to our recruiting and be a great teacher as well.

#8...AMEN.

Our bowl win streak needs to be mentioned here. At the start of this bowl season, we were tied with Rutgers and Auburn for the longest in the country(5 games).

With Rutgers' loss and Auburn's lack of bowl eligiblity, we have a chance to stand alone nationally atop the bowl win streak column...

Agreed. Props to the TSUNers for winning this one.
7. Some people had reported earlier that there were rumors of a signing day flip. KM was really saying the right things. And everybody knew the game was afoot when he scheduled an official visit. The question now is why did he not commit. I mean, they can get people to decommit, but the elites won't commit to them. Are they waiting for NSD? Until they take their visits? The outstanding top players all have TSUN near the top of their list but no commitment. That should send up warning flashes. But we'll see how it all plays out. How does State play it out from here with KM? I'd love for them to retract the offer when they return from J'Ville.

5. Sometimes recruiting just doesn't make sense. The insiders always talk about looking at the depth charts (unless you got to Yancey's site, which has disabled the 2012 depth chart and roster. State lost its #2 running back to his SECOND knee injury. The incumbent starter will be a senior next year. The two sophomores have their own limitations.
For TSUN, they have a whole stable of RBs. I know most of them will move to another position or hit the JUCO trail. But for a RB looking to play early and often, it doesn't make good sense. It does to KM, so that's all that really matter. I know that it does open the door wide open for us to get Shumpert.

Burdette and Hilton are DBs. Loyal didnt qualify. Brazley will play in the slot.

It helps to at least have minimal knowledge about something when you comment on it.

I was actually kind of agreeing with your points, and could even get on board with a couple of your Oliver Stone-esque theories, but then you kept talking and decided to provide this little gem.

They had the best 6-6 season EVAHHHHH- only giving up 39 PPG in their 6 losses. I cant wait to hear again about how they played Bama so well- only down 27-7 at half and amassing just over 200 yards of total offense for the game. 8 wins > 6 wins
Gator Bowl > Compass/PoppaJohn's Bowl
They won the Egg- we had the better season.

First off, congrats on the Gator Bowl. Absolutely. It's a far more prestigious bowl than the BBVA Compass, and with the difference in our records, y'all certainly deserved to go. It does strike me a bit odd that the cheapest ticket available to our bowl is $51.00, and earlier today, y'alls was 5 cents. Yes, 5 17ing cents. Guess someone snatched it up as its now at 10 cents, with another 217 to go on stubhub before your game reaches the $51 mark.

Secondly, y'all gave up 38.5 points per game in your four losses, despite having two more wins. That 39-point figure for us is, of course, a bit skewed by the 66 we gave up early in the season to Texas. Average number of points given up against SEC competition - where all your losses and BCS competition occurred - remains at 38.5 for MSU, and drops to 33.6 in SEC losses, and 29.88 for us in SEC play. Perhaps we could've shrunk that number had we swapped off Vanderbilt (8-4) and Georgia (11-2 with a narrow loss to Bama) for Kentucky and Tennessee (not looking up records. Both fired their coaches so that says enough).

To take things a step further, Our average margin of defeat in SEC play was 11.2. Take out Georgia (where you all were oohing and aahing over our defense and C.J. Jonson on here the entire first half), it drops to 7.25 in SEC play. Y'alls? 23.25/game. Taking your worst loss, Bama, out of the equation, that's 20.7 points/loss.

Speaking of Bama. Y'all amassed 256 of total offense to our 218. Congrats on gaining 38 more yards against them than us. For a team coming off 2-10 this year, yeah, being down 27-7 and making it 27-14 in the third was a moral victory. What I don't think you, or many MSU fans understand is, that game marked the first time in three years that we had seen a team that acted like it mattered and acted like it believed. Going in, we figured the score would be a lot worse, but we did make a game of it for awhile.

Meanwhile, for y'all, 7-0 going in, 8-0 we believe, 14-0 at the end of one and 24-0 at the half. Must've been a moral victory.

Finally, this is why you're a **********. You take an MSU football and MSU recruiting post, but can't resist taking a jab at us, then actually use both teams' home records in the Egg Bowl over the last 14 years as an odd reassurance that everything's going to be OK. I'm sorry, but I've got to ask you:

Think back to a year ago, when y'all entered the Egg Bowl knowing you'd win, and we entered knowing you were going to kick the **** out of us. My goodness, better record and better bowl and all that, have things sunk so far so quickly that uncalled for jabs are necessary, you have to create the appearance your team is that much better (in spite of on-field results I suppose) and reassure yourself based on the past?

I stopped reading after the price of a ticket on StubHub was used as a reason our team sucks.
That's the stupidest thing I've ever read. If I put a ticket to that gem of a bowl in B'ham for 5 cents on StubHub that means Black bear U sucks? Nevermind. Don't answer that.

I didn't say y'all suck or that was a reason y'all suck. I did say I found it odd that a more prestigious bowl had tickets that cheap compared to our crappier bowl.

Wow, you've opened my eyes. We must be 6-6 and OMU is 8-4!

And I didn't realize I said y'all were 6-6 and we were 8-4!. Wait, I didn't say that.

I did insinuate that our record and points given up/game may have been different if we had the same schedule though.

This said about me replying to a novel with one about half the size. Guess that makes C34 a bigger douche. Now seriously, act like a lemming, jump off a cliff and impale yourself on a sharp rock when you land. I'm not the antichrist, it's two sixes and a 9, I was bluffing. I am an Ole Miss fan though. Deal with it, and go 17 yourself.

Nothing productive except facts. Not a fan I take it.

I guess in your head "best 6-6 team evahhh" is productive with regards to MSU's football team and recruiting. Man, if I had been a psychology major, I'd be having a field day with you right about now.

He pointed out how many points we gave up on an average. I compared our average points given up in SEC losses to the games your team lost - all in SEC play - as well as margin of defeat for both of us in conference play.

Jesus. Wanna try again, maybe actually put a little thought into your reply? You just reminded me of a former coworker (MSU fan, ironically) who got banned from a bowling alley for exposing himself to a 16-year-old female employee. You're not a Dolphins fan also, are you?

Psst ... Actually Everbank holds 67,000+ for NFL games while Legion Field, even after losing the upper deck, holds 71,000+. Try another excuse.

Whaaaa?? No "witty banter" in my posts...just facts. I thought you liked dealing in facts? No?

You're a douche...fact.
0 people would miss you if you left....fact.
Your 1st post in this thread was long as 17...fact.
If there's 1 person posting right now that hurts the quality of the board, it's you...fact

Tell me where I'm wrong, and where my witty banter is located.

Show we where you've actually acknowledged or replied to a single fact I laid out in that "long as 17" first post that was a lot shorter than what I replied rather than sniping with off-topic **** because you're pissy at me for whatever reason. You haven't. Fact.

Truth is, you couldn't think of a single rebuttal to the statistical facts about our two teams that I presented. Look, you don't like what I have to say, don't read it. You got a personal gripe against me, that's your problem. But before you start acting like a complete imbecile, try actually replying to what I said initially in that "long as 17 post." And it was a bit long to hold your attention span, I suppose that explains your train of though since I posted it.

Now seriously, cliff, lemming, you jump, impale on sharp rock. Was that short and simple enough for you? Just focus on that last sentence if you've got to. well, this one too. Please, do us a favor, and don't procreate. Wear a beekeeper outfit if you've got to.
