1. I hope we have sorted some things out defensively- just as we all do. But the bottom line in stopping what NW does is your DL. If Cherry is still getting a majority of the snaps- then our D is in trouble. I have not heard if Quay, James, or Jones got their **** together and had a good bowl practice- so no idea what's the rotation is going to be Tuesday.
2. I've been critical of the offense with good reason. It disappeared in big games and 3rd down conversions have been abysmal. However, in the grand scheme of things, you have to credit Mullen and crew somewhat for the transition from being a run heavy offense to a pass first offense. We didnt stink up the place like Cheezik and his crew did switching from the Spread this season. We made some big adjustments offensively in our transition and while not setting the world on fire- we werent awful. Hopefully this extra time has given the staff some time to add a couple of things to help the run game advance and take the pressure off Tyler.
3. So long Melvin, it was past time for you to go. I thank you for all the years of quality service and dedication to the program, but not the way you just coasted these last couple. Good luck on the plains before you come home to retire.
4. Anybody that doesnt think Smoot could be a quality DB coach is just very uninformed. This guy was a very good player at the position in both college and the pros. He has been working some camps for us- which is basically an audition for a job. Mullen has actually been able to witness what Fred would bring to the table as a coach in person. You hardly get that luxury with your other applicants unless you have worked with them somewhere else. As far as some of the things he did as a player in the NFL- who gives a 17? He was a man in his 20's, making really good money, and had a job that makes women want to 17 you- what would you do in the same spot? And dont lie to yourself, most of you would have done most of the same **** he did. Smoot is not in his 20's anymore, he is a grown *** man. He has a skill set that would fill a job opening we have very well, and he actually has a love for our school. As far as recruiting, Fred is Melvin x 2. Fred is salesman, a showman. That's what you need on the recruiting trail- someone that makes people believe in you, in what your selling them. Fred has IT. I hope that he and Mullen work it out and we hire Smoot.
5. Kalio flipped. We lost this recruiting battle. I personally, am glad.I think it's a wasted scholarship for a player that does not like contact. He has tons of speed and is a talented player- he is a 4-star talent. I dont think he has a 4-star heart for playing football. Time will tell on this one, but losing this battle to them is no more than fluff.
6. Chris Jones is not going to go to The Ole Miss Rebels. I'll be surprised if he even visits. Dont let the Rebel spin machine get under your skin. Even though Yancy was dead wrong on why Hill flipped to Bama, that won't stop him and their crew. They'll still be throwing those "curveballs".
7. If you don't think that recruiting is orchestrated, the Hill- Kalio Moore saga should convince you. Yancy announces a Christmas present coming for the Rebels- they knew Kalio was flipping and were going to do it on Christmas for everybody to celebrate. Only problem was that Hill flipped on them and had already signed his paperwork with Bama and that news broke on them. So they told Kalio to hold off until the next day so he can make a splash and be the headliner for the day. It's all a carefully orchestrated and calculated game. And they are better than we are at it right now- no doubt. We have got to get better at it.
8. Bracky Brett needs to retire for the good of our athletic programs. That is all
9. I am so thankful for the Rebel invasion on this board again. They had the best 6-6 season EVAHHHHH- only giving up 39 PPG in their 6 losses. I cant wait to hear again about how they played Bama so well- only down 27-7 at half and amassing just over 200 yards of total offense for the game. They did beat us and it was a good win for them- hell, they stormed the field because they beat us finally. Let's remember going forward that both State and OM are 6-1 at home the last 14 years of Egg Bowls. And both road wins were against home teams with awful records.
8 wins > 6 wins
Gator Bowl > Compass/PoppaJohn's Bowl
They won the Egg- we had the better season.
