So it's set, Denver vs Carolina in 2 weeks in San Fran's brand new stadium. Panthers a 5.5 point favorite. Nice to see both 1 seeds and top 2 Defenses in the league go at it. Plus you have 2 storyline QB's, Manning the most wins vs Cam who is the MVP this year, going head to head. Who you got?

I could make an argument for both. Like to see Denver win because I can't stand Scam Newton or anything from North Carolina. Plus would give Peyton a 2nd ring, feeding fuel to the Brady vs Manning GOAT debate. Also, if Denver wins Peyton will retire, it's time.

Carolina is scary good though, their D, although ranked below Denver's is great. Definitely the best in the NFC. I like the makeup of their team, Cam Newton fits that system perfectly and has played out of his mind all year, they have proven vets on D like Jared Allen, Luke Keuchly, Courtlamd Finnegan, etc. Plus they have several players that have been all around the league playing the best of their career. Ted Ginn Jr is a perfect example. Finally, they have the best player in the NFL this season, I admit that I can't stand Scam, but his talent is undeniable.

Betting will be tough on this one, but with the line as it is, I'll take the Broncos and 5.5.

Final score - 21-17 Carolina, hate to do it, but Carolina has the more impressive wins, they have been crushing teams all season, imagine if they had Kelvin Benjamin.

Broncos need to start Osweiler. Carolina's DBs are their "weakness" and Manning can't exploit them with his arm.

Rick Reilly had a classic tweet today. He said that saying Peyton Manning won the AFC championship is like saying Bob Hope won World War II.

Hard to believe this will be the 50th Super Bowl and I remember watching the first one like it was last month.

Broncos win. Peyton rides into the sunset, and Carolina/Cam is the next big thing along side Andrew for the future of this league.

Never in my life could have guessed Cam Newton would lead the Panthers to a Super Bowl. That guy has had a legendary athletic career. Can't believe he sat behind Tebow.

I'll be pulling for Manning because it'd be a story book ending to win and go out a champ and I believe he would call it quits after that.

Regardless of how it goes down, I still think Brady and Manning are the two best QBs of all time with respect to Montana, Favre, Elway and Marino but those two are better than all.

Hard to compare guys from different eras. I think those two are clearly best of this era. Favre, Montana, Elway and Marino were the best of theirs. Then you had guys like Unitas before them who called his own plays. These guys today are playing Arena Football compared to what the game was like 30 years ago.

Not really a Denver fan, but I've always liked Manning. Would love to see him pull it off and go out on top.

BUT--- the only way the Panthers will lose is if they get a really bad case of the first-time-in-SB-nerves. Not likely though, especially since they don't have that Perfect Season monkey on their back.

I'm a Colts fan, so I'll be pulling for Denver. My dad (and me as a kid) adopted the team during the Gary Hogeboom days, so I appreciate what Manning did for Indy.

Still think the Panthers win.

Think everyone needs to get over the Scam Newton. He's a pretty good ambassador for the game with kids.

Carolina is gonna roll. 38-17. Their O is much better than Denvers

Yup. Think I heard that Carolina set a record for points scored regular season + divisional and championship games. Their offense is underrated.

Story lines ranked:
  1. Absurd Cam hate (he celebrates! he's confident! he trash talks! oh noes!) versus all your crying kids. I hope he busts out Janet Jackson's nipples to celebrate a touchdown, then gives the ball to a dying kid while posing for a selfie. And that your kids are watching and scream in horror because kids are emotionally weak.
  2. Manning's football legacy. He hasn't lost to Tom Brady (or NE or BB) in the playoffs since 2004 despite 4 neck surgeries, several head coaches, and two teams. He's in the Super Bowl for the second time in three years after beating Tom (Can't Win on the Road in the Playoffs) Brady in an AFC Championship game again. He is also the weakest part of Denver's team (maybe o-line, but it's close).
  3. Manning's commercials legacy. Some genuine greats, and the Nationwide commercials revived his dying career in commercials, but the Papa Johns stuff is so, so bad. Will there be a new winning Manning commercial?
  4. #1 versus #2 defense, but it's complicated by potential absences. Denver lost both starting safeties last game, and Carolina lost Harper and Thomas Davis Sr. Hope they're all back.
  5. Worst tackles in football versus second worst tackles in football? Maybe.
  6. Manning, recently a turnover machine, versus Carolina's #1 interception percentage (% of drives that end in an interception) defense. Some of those floaters will get swallowed up.
  7. Highest scoring team versus Denver's defense.
  8. CJ Anderson only playing well when he's not starting for someone in fantasy. Been happening all year, might as well continue now.

Their non Norman DBs, yeah. It's a bad matchup for Denver, imho.

Also can't like your post because you follow Rick Reilly on Twitter. Or anywhere. No offense.

I have no dog in the hunt. On the one hand i am rooting for Denver and for Manning to ride off into the sunset with another ring. On the other hand i am rooting for Carolina to win their first SB and because they are a fun team to watch.

I also think Cam is a breath of fresh air. He gives no effs what you think about him. I like that about him. Also…he plays hard…plays well…and is genuinely having a great time doing it. So he celebrates when he is successful. Good for him. He honestly looks like a kid playing sand lot football. It's fun to watch. And his looseness on the field has rubbed off on his teammates and they are playing great as a result.

Biggest two complaints i have about any of this stuff is…
  1. I hate waiting 2 weeks and all of the media circus that fills up that waiting period.
  2. I wish they would go ahead and switch to Super Bowl Saturday. With a 2 week period in-between games there's no reason they couldn't make that compromise for the fans. C'mon, man!!!

And with that i leave you with my prediction…

Carolina 31
Denver 17

I think a late Denver TD will make the game look closer than it really was.

Everything Cam Newton does is to done to bring attention to himself. Everything. If you're okay with it, you can root for him.

Yeah - shame on him for acting like he enjoys what he does, smiling, giving balls to kids, and generally acting like he is enjoying the game of football. Shame, shame. He should just hand the ball to the ref and sit on the sidelines with an expression on his face like he just bit into a turd. That's real football!

Like I said, if you're okay with it, fine. I prefer guys who don't show up their opponents. Mark Gastineau. Terrell Owens. Joakim Noah. The batflip guy on the Blue Jays. All guys who take it way too far.

I'm not against giving balls to kids. Who is? It's just that knowing what I know about Newton and his past (stealing laptops from people's rooms at UF) and the way he reacts when an opponent celebrates against him, I don't buy what he's selling. If you do, I don't hold it against you. We're adults and we can disagree.

What exactly are you "not buying what he's selling"? That he's the MVP, that he's about to lead his team to a Super Bowl win? I'm buying that he's a damn good QB, a fantastic teammate, and the most entertaining player in the NFL.

I'm not buying this whole "I do this for the kids" thing that he's trying to sell.

Yes, he's a damn good player. He's a transformational talent. The future of the position. But when you see him jawing at anyone who dares tackle him hard or yell "I'm gonna smack the **** out of you" to an Alabama fan or yell at his sideline "I can't keep my m****f**** cool" because they called a timeout. I just can't pull for someone who is his own biggest fan. Same goes with Trump. Same goes with anyone who is desparate for attention.

Fair enough. I admit living in Charlotte and being a big Panthers fan I'm a little biased, or a lot biased. He really does do a lot of charity work for the city and much of it is only reported by the local news.

For someone who has so much disdain for Cam, you sure do know a lot about him.

But you are right we can disagree. Hell, I bet A LOT of people thought the same thing about Wall in college and NBA; I know Colin Cowturd did. Point is, an individual can judge a player however they perceive them. That is what it is to be a fan. That's is why we have Heros and Villains in sports.

Panthers 38
Denver 24

Oh, looking on my facebook and I came across Cam Newtons ex side chick from a couple years ago that went to a school near me. I thought the paddock might want to see:

Don't like Manning or Newton. Out of the two, Newton is better right now by a long shot, but he acts like huge feminine hygiene product. Don't like all the me, me, me celebrating.
