Most of the non-game comments have focused on the crappy halftime show and Christina Aguilera flubbing the national anthem. But this year's crop of Super Bowl commercials was definitely sub-par. A couple were mildly entertaining but as a whole, this year's group pretty much sucked. Most of them could probably say what EDS said in their commercial a decade ago - well, we just blew two million dollars (I think it's up to three million now.) To put it in recruiting lingo, there were no difference makers in this class.

A national one, not just local to Mississippi based Fox affiliates, featuring Samsung's new phone. They must be trying to expand big time. That ad space ain't cheap.

on the internet for a few days prior to the super bowl. The kid with the Darth Vader suit was hilarious the first time I wanted it but by the time I saw itduring the Super Bowl ithad lost its surprise factor. Same goesfor the Doritos commercials.

The best one was "Product Placement", where the producer/director decided to "place" Bud Light items in a medieval knghts film.

That was an E*Trade commercial (from 2001, I think) and still my all-time favorite. Doritos, Pepsi, and Budweiser have mastered the art of expensive fail.

I loved the Budweiser ad where all the cowboys ended up singing Tiny Dancer... and the Chevy trucks ad where the truck is basically Lassie... and the Coke ad with the 2 sentry guards where they never speak a word...and the VW Beetle ad with Black Betty playing.

I even loved the Adrian Brody ad for Stella Artois where he's in that jazz basement in Paris serenading his beer but the chicks think he's singing to them.

The companies buying those ads were paying over $2M for the right to entertain you for 30 seconds and put their name out there. What's not to like?

....and....[sigh]... Michael Bay is even sucking me back in with Transformers 3.
