If you were you, that is what you would say.

Now, there is the truth.

Carry on, I'll be in the company area all day.

msubulldog0610]I haven't posted in awhile but I follow this board daily. The thing that I agree with Coach is that people underestimate Dak's skills as a QB. Yes he is like Relf in the sense that he can run but he is a little smaller and probably quicker than Relf. He probably won't be able to run as much due to the fact he isn't as big and won't be able to take as many hits. The main thing people overlook is Dak threw for 5,032 yards and 66 TD's in two years with only 13INTs..Thats damn impressive for any QB, especially in LA with all the talented teams he played. He even had 951 yards and 17 TDs rushing this year. I think in all he had over 1200 yards rushing and near 25 TDs rushing for the last 2 years. Hell when he played Franklinton and Josh Robinson, he played with a torn MCL or something with a knee brace on and still freaking threw for like 400 yards and 5 TDs in the state semi loss to Franklinton, the eventual state champs. Also his passing yardage comes from practically only playing half of every game he played in the last 2 years. So its like he played 12 games not 24 games b/c they usually took him out in the 2nd half after he had destroyed the other teams. So for him to accumulate over 5,000 passing yards and 60TDs and over 1,000-1,200 (not sure exact number) yards rushing and 25 TDs, thats impressive as hell and I'm so glad we got this kid. He runs a 4.7 forty which is about as fast or faster than Relf but he is a very pure and accurate passer who can run. He is 6'3" 225 so only 15 pounds lighter than Relf. He can put on muscle. I think this kid is going to be a really GOOD one for MSU in the future..My sleepers are Dak Prescott and Josh Robinson in this class..

Seen both of them play and they are tough guys with talent. If all these "stud" players from miss want to play these games with recruiting and go to that wasteland up north, let's keep quietly picking off these talented recruits and kick their *** with them.

ETA- Dak was a qb in a prolific spread offense that was well-coached and well run. He is very familiar with the same offense we run and he runs it well.

you've never seen Dak Prescott play a down of college football. Never. Don't give me some ******** about seeing him in high school b/c no QB is a can't miss. Not one.

I'm not saying Dak will beat TR or TR will beat out Dak b/c it is absurd to contemplate right now. Just 17ing dumb. Perfect scenario is TR can be the guy his junior year, dak redshirts and is the guy his junior and senior year. Favre hopefully is a solid backup.

Either way its a good debate to be having but you don't know. If you know, make a PREDICTION.

Go ahead and be ballsy. Say I predict Dak Prescott will beat out Tyler Russell by his 2nd year. Otherwise you are a *****.

Although I don't think he takes either. Broomfield's open field takling may leave something to be desired but he is a far better cover corner than Banks.

Any QB for Dan Mullen will need to be a running threat, and Dan would prefer the QB be decent size to with stand the punishment that goes along with it.

Im not saying Russell isn't a good QB, I think he is, but its like John Brantley, he is simply stuck in an offense that doesn't suit him.

You put Russell in a classic pro formation offense like Bama or LSU, and I think he would do really well, same with Brantley. Relf would be terrible in those offenses. But if you put Russell in the MSU spread option offense, he looks terrible. Relf fits it really well.

Impressive stats by Dak. When Relf signed with State, he was listed as 6'3", 206 lbs, 4.87 40. Dak is well ahead of where Relf was as an incoming freshman. After Spring practice, Dak could very well be farther ahead than Relf was at the end of his redshirt sophomore year, except for experience playing against SEC defenses.

I did not take the time to research it. I just remembered he looked really crisp on that particular drive. <div>
</div><div>You can blame it on them blitzing, but he didn't have time to complete his drop much less pass the ball in that game. I know you really have some sort of deep disdain for Russell, but other than my error in the drive, I don't see how you can disagree with anything I posted. Is Relf our guy next year? Yes. Can Russell develop into an SEC QB? Heck yes.</div><div>
</div><div>I have no clue why you have written him off from day one.</div>

Broomfield is not very athletic and thats what it takes to be a good cover corner. He might be smart in playing zone, but when it comes to talent or man to man he gets beat. Most every time.

or i guess it's more accurate to say he comes in on nickle formations, with Banks sliding over to the nickle CB spot. there will be competition for that job though.

that all really depends on how Banks develops in the offseason. remember that he slid over from safety not too long before the season started. he may get coached up into a much better CB, instead of a safety playing corner like he was last year.

He already has him beat as a runner- now all he has to do is adjust to facing defenses- and he gets not 1, but 2 Springs to do it

Tyler Bray dominated Memphis, Kentucky, Vandy, and the black bears. He had a decent game against South Carolina, whose pass defense didn't finish in the top 100. He had 312 yards and 4 td's against UNC, but he also threw three picks. He also played against UGA and Alabama when the game was over. Basically, the teams he had good games against weren't that impressive. If a qb comes in and plays like an above average sec player as Murray did, he is probably nfl bound at some point.

If he is healthy, he will get meaningful reps this year (assuming we aren't forced tofight our way through every game and I think we will be better that that).
And if you are saying that he will get "meaningful reps" unless we are "fighting through" a game this year, don't the two statements sort of cancel each other out? Meaning, if he is only brought in when we aren't fighting our way through a game, doesn't that sort of make the snaps not very meaningful? I'm not saying TR will be the starter in 2012 or not, I'm just saying that in 2011, I hope EVERY "meaningful" rep is taken by Relf, not TR.And thatkind of negatesyour meaningful repsguarantee.Surely you can agree with that.

And does "starts due to injury" count?

I will predict that he will not be atop the depth chart, co-starters or not, for the first game of 2012. But i would not be surprised to see him rise to the top by the end of the season.

I would see meaningful reps as more than one series. What number becomes meaningful? More than one series is a good start. Put the guy on teh field and let hin play a quarter.

Games we fight our way through?

Where the outcome is in doubt from the first series until we breath a huge sigh of relief when it is over. Games like we played in the Gator bowl. Granted I don't know crap, but I am hoping we came into our own in the Gator bowl. It was the first game in a long time I really enjoyed. Why not select Alcorn or JSU. I expected us to win those, and from the way we played at times, we expected us to win them too. I saw a desire to play our best more than once in the Gator Bowl.

My hope is that we pay well enough this year that we have a chance to play our backups more and give them meaningful experience on the field and in my opinion, oneseries is not meaningful time.
