I used to gamble on sports all the time. Never bet anything I couldn't afford to lose and just did it to add some fun to watching games and challenge myself. I was pretty good at college football and basketball. In the last few years with all of the commercials and everything about sports being gambling driven I have gotten tired of it and completely stopped just because it isn't fun anymore and I don't want to support these businesses.

These gambling companies are absolutely 17ing people with the hopes of hitting some longshot BS parlay. They are just creating gambling addicts.

I go to oaklawn once a year for the weekend with a group of friends and our wives. I have a $100 daily limit and out of 20+ years of going this past year is the first year I didn’t break even at least. Most years is break even( left track even, does not include room and meals) but a few years I’ve won enough to pay for the entire weekend.

I meet a couple friends on Fridays (maybe 25 out of 52) at the casino, one of them is my best friend and is in the group that goes to oaklawn, we stay about 1.5 hrs but I don’t play much during that time. They play video poker at the bar and if the video roulette seat is open I play 50 cent roulette. They are there for the free drinks ( I rarely drink and can only recall one time I had 1 beer there because I have a CDL) and we hangout and talk. Once they leave I’ll go to the casino next door and play roulette, $100 is my limit, for about 45 minutes to 1 hr. I can usually leave up $50 but once I stayed 5 hrs and left up $5k. ~20% of the time I’ll lose the $100.

i kinda don’t bet on sports but I have hosted a football pickem pool $50 buy in for the season but at $50 it’s really just for fun. I do a weekly payout and overall 1-3rd and generally can get my buy in back.

I work in Vegas all the time. Have never gambled on anything -- slot machine, card game, craps, etc. Just not my thing.

I have plenty of other vices, though.

My uncle had a pool table and I lived on his property back in 80s. I was good not great, he was not on my level but was a decent player and wealthy. I asked if he wanted to wager. He said no, I was thinking a dollar but for just keeping a running tally and never exchanging $$. Hell, I was drinking his liquor

His response: He said he liked me and would not be playing with me otherwise and didn’t want my money and I was not getting his so let’s just play. I lived that for a long time until my expendable income was a bit more. Most shocking part was someone liked me! 😊

Now I gamble very sparingly, cheap things, fantasy football, local poker tourney, $5 golf game or maybe a weekend tourney for 150 or so with a meal and two rounds of golf with a chance to win. I spent more than that to get to play some courses. Entertainment budget gets exceeded at times on travel, not gambling.
