Sweet Lou has lost it

The Cubs $90 million pitcher is sent home after a dugout explosion and hasn't been heard from since Friday. The same thing happened last year with Bradley. The team is 8.5 back and it's not even July. Sweet Lou's attitude is "eh, what're you gonna do?" He's become a lovable loser too.

Lou is just as volitale as those players. Remember the time he attacked Rob Dibble in the clubhouse when they were with the Reds in the early 90's?

The Rookie of the Year in the NL is going to be between Strasburg and Heyward.

Starting Colvin everyday wouldn't affect that.

Those are Colvin's stats so far this season. Roughly half the at bats that Derrick Lee has playing everyday.

If you simply double the stats, which I know isn't very reliable, but since he has almost half the at bats of Lee (275)and Theriot (286), two of the only everyday players, I think he could do it. He would have be hitting, .290 with 20 hr's, 54 RBI's. He would be leading the NL in HR's, and fourth in RBI's, have a top 20 batting average.

Hell, his numbers stack up with Heyward now, despite over a 100 less at bats. One less homer, 40 points higher batting average, much higher slugging percentage. The RBI and runs scored are simply because he isn't playing.

Comparing it to Heyward:

<table style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 0px" class="tablehead" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="3"><tbody><tr class="colhead" align="right"><td align="left">SPLITS</td><td width="5%">G</td><td width="5%">AB</td><td width="5%">R</td><td width="5%">H</td><td width="5%">2B</td><td width="5%">3B</td><td width="5%">HR</td><td width="5%">RBI</td><td width="5%">BB</td><td width="5%">SO</td><td width="5%">SB</td><td width="5%">CS</td><td width="5%">AVG</td><td width="5%">OBP</td><td width="5%">SLG</td><td width="5%">OPS</td></tr><tr class="oddrow" align="right"><td align="left">Season</td><td>71</td><td>255</td><td>41</td><td>64</td><td>13</td><td>3</td><td>11</td><td>45</td><td>42</td><td>68</td><td>5</td><td>4</td><td>.251</td><td>.366</td><td>.455</td><td>.821</td></tr></tbody></table>
Of course he has no argument over Strasburg. The guy should be a unaminous ROY.

But I will say this about Colvin- and this was from a discussion about him on MLB Network- they were saying that one reason he is doing well is because Lou is keeping him out of situations that are unfavorable to him.

The Cubs are fairly deep in the outfield- Marlon Byrd, Fukodome- I know a lot of Cubs fans don't like him, and Soriano- again I know a lot of Cubs fans don't like him, but he is a dangerous player despite his strikeouts and his bad contract. And then you have Xavier Nady in the mix as well.

I think the fact that Colvin is not being counted on to carry the Cubs, and is not necessarily an everyday player also helps him. Heyward, on the other hand is being counted on to be the face of the franchise already as well as pressure from being the number one prospect in baseball, and the Braves not having a safety net make it a little more challenging for Heyward as well. Jason Heyward is also an excellent defensive player with more speed on the basepaths as well. And while I don't agree with this- a lot of voters would give Heyward the nod because his team is doing better.

I do agree about Strasburg. He is getting my unofficial vote for rookie of the year.

Is Lou protecting Colvin too much? Probably so. He is at the point where you have to try to get him in the lineup to see what he can do in a more challenging situation to see what he can do.

is firmly ahead of Jason Heyward right now. It's his to lose... Strasburg only has 3 starts under his belt and lot can happen in that time. Of course, if Garcia has a terrible second half, he could lose it too... but right now, it's Jaime Garcia's to lose.

But I have seen Strasburg on TV, and Garcia in person. I just don't think Garcia will keep it up. He lost to the Royals yesterday, and had a rough outing in Toronto. Strasburg on the other hand- who yes, lost to the Royals, but 1-0- has a ridiculous strikeout to inning ratio. I could see Strasburg holding up, if not getting better. His stuff is ridiculous even when the league adjusts to him.

Also, speaking of Cardinals and rookies, I think David Freese has had a very nice year for the Cardinals, but no way he will win the Rookie of the Year with the other guys out there. This is going to be a year that goes down with years like 1986 with all of the young talent that is coming up. And most of it is in the National League, it seems like. Maybe they'll finally win an All-Star game in a couple of years.

Heck, no one has mentioned Mike Leake yet- or Mike Stanton with the Marlins or Pedro Alvarez with the Pirates.

This year may very well be better than 1986.

The Pirates are 26-50 (0.342 winning pct.). The Cubs are 33-43 (0.434).

They have played 10 times, with the Pirates winning 8.

So the Pirates are 18-48 (0.273 winning pct.) against the rest of MLB, while playing 0.800 ball against the Cubs. The Cubs are 31-35 against the rest of MLB (0.470), while playing 0.200 ball against the Pirates.

The Orioles have the worst record in baseball at 23-52 (0.307 winning pct.), which is a good bit better than the 18-48 the Pirates have racked up against the rest of the league, yet somehow the Cubs can't beat the Pirates to save their lives.

To take it further, the Cubs are averaging 2.8 runs per game against the Pirates this year. The Pirates allow 6.0 runs per game against other opponents. It really sucks being a Cubs fan.
