I have some in-laws / family / friends that are legit welcome in my house anytime and can stay as long as they want. However those are the ones that after awhile help contribute to the house (take out trash, dishes, cooking, etc...) and are also able to entertain themselves. 3 days sounds about right for the others, I'm not particularly interested in having to meal plan for or keep entertained other grown adults, and any longer than a weekend and I'll start getting impatient.

We have a few friends from out of town that can stay as long as they want. My sister in law lives 5 minutes from us so that takes care of itself but they’re welcome anytime too.

We moved the rule to 3 days from a week... because Nana (MiL) is picky and controlling with no filter, but she would hold it all until day 3 of 5. We moved it to 3 last Christmas, and she goes zero to insane by lunch. Its really wild to watch.

....and my mom is good for a visit right up until church is mentioned. So....about the same.

Eh…depends entirely on the guests. My wife’s parents are cool and they help out around the house when they stay with us. They can stay as long as they want. My brother and sister along with their spouses are the same way. They can stay indefinitely. My wife has four siblings. Three of them are welcome for as long as needed. One of them has about six hours tops. That said, anything more than three days starts to feel a little odd to me. I wouldn’t stay with someone any longer than that, and would prefer if nobody stayed with me longer than that.

I do them and myself a favor and stay at a hotel and it is my hope that they reciprocate, other than my kids. I've always got hotel points and use them regularly. Get together for a few hours each day they are in town then say adios

My in-laws have it figured out. They always stay one day more than welcome.
Great News!!! My in-laws informed me they don’t have to leave tomorrow. They’d like to stay around and take the whole family out to dinner tomorrow night. I suggested we go for an early breakfast instead…the wife was not pleased with my helpfulness.
