Wes Johnson - 2*
Rick Jackson - 4*
Arinze Onuaku - 3*
Brandon Triche - 3*
Andy Rautins - 1* (As everyone probably knows, this means not ranked)

This post might be a little out of the blue, but I was watching ESPN before the Syracuse UCONN game came on tonight, and the talking heads were talking about how none of Syracuse's starting five were players ranked in the top 150 in their recruiting classes. I was like yeah, but they were all probably ranked right outside of it. Well I looked it up, and to my surprise, this is what I found. They brought this to the attention of coach <span class="bodytext">Boeheim and a few players, and all of them talked about team chemistry. Below, is our starting five, and their stars according to scout. I know that people say stars mean nothing, but that usually comes from fans whose team has had a bad recruiting year. I'm not going to sit here and bash Stans or anything like that, but I thought this was some interesting info to throw out there and see what people have to say. By the way, if you didn't already know, the team above is ranked #4 in the country and has I think one loss, and we all know about the team below.

Dee Bost - 4*
Ravern Johnson - 4*
Kodi Augustus - 3*
Barry Stewart - 3*
Jarvis Varnado - 4*

Interesting indeed, it really makes you wonder what someone like Boeheim could do with our players.

Or it could mean that our players were simply overrate or that Syracuse found some gems. It happens. I think I also heard on an earlier game how Rautins has basically worked his *** of to become a decent player b/c he wasn't that good when he showed up initially.

Chemistry and knowing your role is also important and we've sorely lacked those two things over the past few years.

They all have the ability to be very good, but I have yet to see Stans develop a player in 4 years to his full potential.

Roy Williams says before his game with Duke last night, "I've never been so frustrated in my career that my players aren't putting in the effort that I expect". Coach speak for "I can't do what Boeheim does" or just that big of a drop off in star talent?

Boeheim recruits for character, chemistry, and how the players will fit his system rather than just going for the highest ranked (not just him getting the most out of his players).

I have had for a while. Recruiting sites have a southern bias because that's where the bread is buttered.

Before he broke through with his first national title, Boeheim was seen as a big underachiever for many years for not winning with the talent he had (Derrick Coleman, Pearl Washington, Rony Seikaly, etc.) It is funny how coaches sometimes get that monkey off their back by breaking through. Lute Olsen was the same way.
Boeheim is probably my favorite coach in the NCAA. It is amazing what he has been able to do playing in such a tough conference over the years.
